JOB SUMMARY

We’re looking for a Marine Systems Technician Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.
Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, based in Southampton. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we’ll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Maintain Automatic Marine Observation Systems across our Marine Network. Including working with systems on Met Ocean Data Buoys, Light Vessels and Voluntary Observation Ships. Maintenance work is predominately based at our facility at Southampton’s National Oceanography Centre.
  • Assemble, test and repair advanced weather observation instrumentation, data logging systems and satellite communication systems.
  • Opportunities for UK and International Travel to undertake servicing visits. This includes visiting offshore sites on a chartered buoy laying vessel for periods of 1-10 days several times a year, predominately in the summer period. This work requires ENG1 Seafarers and Working at Height Medicals, Working at Height and Personal Survival Techniques training, all provided by the Met Office.
  • Work within established Health and Safety Systems including Working at Height up to 10 meters
