JOB SUMMARY

The Maritime Engineering & Environmental Science Academy (MEESA) Teacher is responsible for creating a dynamic, interdisciplinary classroom environment where students engage in maritime engineering, environmental science, and global logistics through real-world, hands-on learning experiences. The position integrates CTE and science-based instruction, leveraging project-based learning, industry partnerships, and emerging technologies to prepare students for careers in blue and green industries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES REQUIRED)

Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM Education, Environmental Science, Engineering, Global Logistics, Technology Education, or a related field. Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia CTE Teaching License (Technology Education, or Engineering endorsement preferred). Strong understanding of STEM education, sustainability, and industry-aligned competencies. Experience or familiarity with emerging technologies (AI, automation, IoT, renewable energy, logistics software). Ability to design and implement problem-based and experiential learning experiences. Proficiency in industry-relevant software and tools for engineering, environmental science, and logistics. Ability to collaborate with industry and community partners to enhance student learning. Adaptability and willingness to innovate in a flexible, evolving educational setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse students, families, and industry stakeholders. Passion for mentoring students toward career readiness in blue and green industries.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitates instructional delivery and curriculum integration through teaching skills, knowledge, and industry-relevant problem-solving techniques in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, and global logistics through hands-on and inquiry-based methods.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with Virginia CTE and Science Standards of Learning (SOLs) and MEESA’s competency-based curriculum.
  • Utilizes industry-relevant technology, software, and tools (AI, IoT, modeling & simulation, renewable energy applications, automation) to support student learning.
  • Encourages cross-disciplinary exploration, incorporating elements of maritime engineering, environmental science, and supply chain logistics into the curriculum.
  • Using Student-Centered Learning & Real-World Applications Designs and facilitates immersive, project-based learning experiences that simulate real-world challenges in maritime, environmental, and logistics sectors.
  • Engages students in industry partnerships, field experiences, internships, and problem-solving collaborations with professionals in maritime and environmental fields.
  • Uses flexible learning spaces and innovative instructional strategies to foster student creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability.
  • Develops student leadership and career readiness skills, guiding students toward certifications, dual enrollment, and career pathways in STEM, sustainability, and logistics.
  • Ensures proper assessment and student growth by implementing competency-based assessments that focus on student mastery and skill progression rather than traditional grading.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and professional skill development, maintaining accurate records and progress reports.
  • Provides differentiated instruction and individualized support to meet diverse student needs.
  • Maintains safety, compliance and professional expectations by Instructing students in the safe use of equipment, technology, and industry tools, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Maintains and manages materials, equipment, and lab spaces in a manner that supports innovation while ensuring safety.
  • Engages in continuous professional development to stay current with industry trends, certifications, and best practices.
  • Establishes and maintains high standards of student behavior for a productive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Through collaboration and school community engagement, works closely with MEESA leadership, industry professionals, and university partners to enhance curriculum development and student opportunities.
  • Communicates regularly with students, parents, counselors, and community stakeholders to support student growth and engagement.
  • Participates in faculty committees, industry advisory boards, and student activities, contributing to the continuous evolution of the MEESA program.
