JOB DESCRIPTION:
In Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S), we play a central role in bp’s strategy—creating value for bp and our shareholders by integrating across our oil, gas, and lower carbon value chains. We connect energy producers, suppliers, markets, and customers to keep energy flowing today.
The Gas & Power Trading International (GPTI) Market Strategist team is hiring a new Market Strategist to support a key business growth area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with deep expertise in gas and LNG markets who is eager to help reshape how ST&S operates.
Our team is responsible for identifying and forecasting changes in supply and demand fundamentals and communicating the likely impact on price action to the trading benches and origination teams, as well as contributing towards long-term investment decisions.
In this role, you will be creating, maintaining, and communicating market outlooks and will contribute towards the team’s short-, mid-, and long-term market forecasts. In addition to maintaining existing modelling, you will also help shape continuous improvement over time.
The successful candidate will understand how commodity markets trade, have experience developing fundamental analysis, and delivering insightful commercial advice. They will enjoy working in a fast-paced, global trading organization and will have an eye for detail and a focus on timely delivery.
The role will be based in Canary Wharf. We offer a 60/40 hybrid working arrangement with 3 days/week in office, on average.
ADDITIONAL DESIREABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
Knowledge of other commodity markets such as oil, power, or coal.
Record of strong fundamental market calls and providing commercial advice.
Experience programming in Python or using Dataiku or similar coding background.
Experience building data visualization tools such as PowerBI dashboards.
Econometric modeling knowledge.
Experience working with large data sets.
History of continually improving technical processes, models, and systems.
Knowledge of other energy commodities.
Additional languages (ability to read and interpret business documents).
Academic background, or equivalent, in a quantitative, statistical, mathematical, engineering or similar discipline
Knowledge of gas and/or LNG markets, including the key supply and demand drivers and how these commodities are traded.
Ability to analyze complex market dynamics and influence commercial decisions.
Understanding of economic fundamental forecasting principles.
Ability to communicate key themes and messages clearly and succinctly to various stakeholders.
Excellent problem-solving capability.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize under pressure.
Desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic trading environment.
Ability to work independently or as part of an agile team.
