JOB SUMMARY

This position reports to the Creative, Marketing and Communications Director and is a team member in the Community and Economic Development Division. The position works with the director to plan, create and execute the city’s communications, public relations, marketing and events efforts. This position is responsible for maintaining the city’s digital presence and will plan, create and execute engaging digital and video content for the city’s website, email communications and social media platforms. This role is ideal for someone passionate about content creation and digital communications and eager to contribute to the city’s growth. This role will also be a key lead on event planning, promotion and execution.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Excellent written communication and proofreading skills with the ability to produce internal and external communication and marketing products.
  • Background in external and internal communications, marketing or public relations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to achieve results and deliver quality work on tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience managing and producing content for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and other channels deemed relevant to key audiences.
  • Experience creating engaging content
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Word and basic Excel).
  • Experience with email marketing programs (Constant Contact a plus)
  • Experience with web content management systems
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
  • Knowledge of marketing and communications analytics a plus.
  • Knowledge of event planning principles a plus.
  • Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks.
  • Innovative thinker and problem solver.
  • Skill in public and interpersonal relations with excellent relationship-building skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field.
  • Two years of related and progressive experience required.
  • Writing and content samples will be required of job candidates.

Responsibilities

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will be an integral player in sharing the story of Avondale Estates. Key duties include:

  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute internal and external communications, public relations, marketing and event promotions to:
  • Convey city news and accomplishments to residents and community members,
  • Position Avondale Estates as a place for new development and business while continuing to be a great place to live, work and play, and
  • Keep staff and leadership informed and abreast of City projects and activities.
  • Writing, proofing and designing well-crafted content (such as social media campaigns, electronic and print newsletters, web content and press releases) for the city’s websites, social media accounts and other channels that connect, engages and inform targeted audiences.
  • Produce weekly e-newsletter.
  • Produce a bimonthly print magazine.
  • Monitor social media daily and produce content.
  • Regularly create and update website content.
  • Identifying new content opportunities by collaborating with the various departments and external partners, local organizations, businesses, and civic organizations.
  • Creating, coordinating, editing, and posting video content.
  • Developing and implementing a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, timely digital campaigns that drive engagement across all platforms.
  • Developing and promoting engaging stories about the City’s work, its staff and the community.
  • Using analytics to review and improve multi-channel content and engagement, and track key economic development metrics.
  • Reviewing and updating content to ensure up-to-date, accurate information across the websites and other collateral material.
  • Attending events to contribute live digital content to social media channels and record additional content for archival and website use.
  • Promoting and coordinating special event logistics, including scheduling and managing food, drink and any other vendors, seeking and managing sponsorships, managing setup and clean up for the events, and coordinating with other departments for support based on the needs of the event, participating in the content planning, and refining operating procedures for the events. Attending events to ensure program is operating as expected.
  • Meeting and coordinating with the city event management team to review and approve event permits, and provide support for events produced by outside organizations.
  • Assisting with management and oversight of special projects.
  • Performing related duties.
