Description

Chiltern Open Air Museum (COAM) is an award-winning independent outdoor museum and charity in the Chalfonts, Buckinghamshire that welcomes around 46,000 visitors a year. The Museum has a collection of 37 rescued historic buildings that were either the homes or workplaces of ordinary people. The Museum is set in 45 acres of beautiful Chilterns landscape and has a working historic farm, livestock, traditional cottage gardens, orchards and woodland.
As an independent charity, the Museum receives no government funds. Income is generated through a wide range of activities including – admissions, COAM Annual Membership sales, events, retail sales, catering, weddings and private hire, experience days, educational visits, filming – and the balance is made up through donations and grants.
Due to a recent National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, COAM are looking to recruit two Pathways to Heritage Trainees.
The two placements are:

LEARNING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE OFFERED (LEARNING OUTCOMES)

· Insight into how COAM creates and delivers its events and marketing to reach and attract different audiences
· Internal and external communication skills for a wide range of audiences
· A basic understanding of how to use digital and creative tools for marketing purposes
· Administration and organisational skills
· Understanding of accessibility and being welcoming to everyone
· Event planning and delivery skills
· Hands on experience of public events
· Develop an understanding on engaging and working with volunteers
· An understanding of the breadth of work needed to run a popular visitor attraction

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

This Trainee role would suit someone who is interested in pursuing a career in marketing and visitor experience within the museum and heritage sector.
The successful candidate will spend their time learning about marketing, events, audience development, accessibility, and visitor experience. They will work with the Marketing and General Manager and Events Manager to develop and complete their own small-scale project (for example a small event or marketing project). They will be encouraged to contribute their own ideas to projects and work with the wider COAM team.
The Marketing and Visitor Experience Trainee will not be expected to possess an in-depth knowledge about marketing or events. A key part of this role will be training and development of these skills and knowledge.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· To support the administration and delivery of marketing activities
· To support the preparation, delivery and de-rig of events
· With assistance, create family trails and activities for school holidays
· To assist with unlocking/locking and preparing the site for presentation to the public
· To assist in ensuring the site and activities are accessible to everyone
· To assist the Front-of-House Team in providing excellent customer service
· Developing and completing a small-scale project.
