Description Job Type Temporary, Part-Time, Volunteer/Unpaid Duration and Time Commitment Annual Fiscal Year Internship from Sept 2026 - Aug 2027 OR Semester Internship Summer 2026 or Fall 2026 Minimum 12-hour schedule/week (flexibility for intern to choose schedule within organization work hours) Workplace Location Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas has offices in Austin and San Antonio that are open for use by all staff and interns. Our interns have the flexibility to work remotely/from home but will be expected to work in-office at least one day a week. This internship position is only available in our Austin office. All internships require the individual to be residing in our chapter territory throughout the duration of the internship period for in-person activities, such as wish reveals and fundraising events. Internship Overview Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas internships are intended for college students and/or recent graduates seeking to gain hands-on work experience in the nonprofit industry. Our internship can fulfill academic course credits through most colleges and universities. As the Marketing & Communications Intern, you will play a critical role in storytelling, donor engagement, and elevating the Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas brand. This hands-on opportunity will allow you to gain real-world experience in nonprofit marketing while making a meaningful impact. Job Description: Communications & Marketing Intern Related Fields Include But Are Not Limited To: Advertising, Communications, English, Graphic Design, Journalism, Marketing, Media, Photography, Public Relations, Videography Assist in identifying and crafting wish stories for newsletters, website features, press releases, donor engagement, and other marketing materials. Develop and schedule content for our primary social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and manage the editorial calendar. Design marketing collateral for events, including programs, signage, and PowerPoint decks. Capture photo and video content at wish reveal parties, galas, and other internal/external events as needed. Requirements Writing and editing skills required. Proficiency in Canva and PowerPoint required. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Constant Contact, and/or video editing is a plus but not required. Must have reliable mode of transportation to travel across chapter territory as needed. Ability to learn quickly, work independently, problem solve, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Must be detail oriented. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be comfortable making phone calls on behalf of the organization. Professionally represent the Make-A-Wish® brand with internal and external stakeholders. Displays professionalism and quality customer service and delivery skills. Ability to deal with sensitive information with a high level of trust and confidentiality. Experience or basic knowledge of most Microsoft computer programs, including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Bilingual/Spanish First Language is a plus. Experience with nonprofit databases (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce) is a plus but not required. Application Requirements Must include a story-based/PR/media writing sample (no academic research papers) or social media copy samples under "Additional Files" section on first page of application. Media samples used for academic purposes are acceptable. A graphic design portfolio and/or document with links to online portfolio or videography samples are welcomed but not required. Incomplete applications (missing required experience samples, etc.) will not be considered for review.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist in crafting wish stories for various marketing channels and manage the editorial calendar for social media. They will also design marketing collateral and capture photo and video content at organizational events.
