Mount Saint Joseph Academy is a Catholic, college preparatory school for girls located outside of Philadelphia with a mission of empowering young women to realize their fullest potential. Founded in 1858 and sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, the Mount is a three-time recognized National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence serving young women in grades 9-12. As a Sponsored Ministry of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, we are imbued with a spirit of unity and reconciliation, the charism of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
The Mount is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Communications Specialist for a full-time entry-level position on-site in our Marketing & Communications Department. In the spirit of the mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, we believe that “On the education of women largely depends the future of society,” and so empower young women to reach their fullest potential—the candidate will demonstrate a passion for this mission.
The Communications Specialist will provide essential creative and organizational support to the Marketing & Communications Department, working collaboratively with the Director of Marketing & Communications and the Communications and Media Manager. This role focuses on content creation, project coordination, and workflow management to enhance the Academy’s communication effectiveness and ensure timely delivery of all initiatives. The Communications Specialist will play a key role in streamlining departmental operations while supporting content development that resonates with our diverse constituencies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
· 1-3 years of experience in content creation, communications, or project coordination
· Strong portfolio of writing samples demonstrating versatility across different formats and audiences
· Experience with content management systems preferred
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
· Experience in educational or non-profit communications
· Project management experience or certification
· Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with design software
· Knowledge of CRM and CMS systems and email marketing platforms (Finalsite preferred)
· Experience with videography, photography and basic editing
· Understanding of SEO and web content optimization

COLLABORATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work closely with Director of Communications and Marketing on strategic initiatives
· Support Communications and Media Manager with daily operations
· Collaborate with various departments to gather content and information
· Participate in planning meetings and creative brainstorming sessions
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications and MarketingQUALIFICATIONS
· An appreciation for the mission of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and an understanding and commitment to these values
· Strong writing and editing skills with attention to grammar, style, and AP guidelines
· Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities
· Hands-on experience with content creation across multiple platforms and formats
· Proficiency with basic graphic design tools (Canva and Adobe Creative Suite preferred but not required)
· Understanding of content management systems and digital publishing platforms
· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
· Knowledge of social media platforms and content creation best practices
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work collaboratively and take initiative in a team environment
· Professional demeanor when interacting with students, families, faculty, and staff
· Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment
