Description The Marketing Manager resides in the Marketing and Communications Department, one of four programmatic departments at CBF. The role of the department is to market CBF’s brand and priorities, including its policy, education, litigation, restoration, fundraising, and member-development programs; engage the public; and mobilize its advocacy and financial support. CBF’s Marketing and Communications activities are broken into five functional areas: Editorial and content creation, Creative Services, Marketing, Communications, and Operations and Internal Communications. Through these five areas of expertise, Marketing and Communications staff develop narrative, graphic, and video content through all our channels; research and write, utilizing storytelling to make stories “sticky;” manage our brand graphically and in messaging; manage all aspects of earned, paid, and public service media (and all the elements which go into it such as relationships with reporters, press releases, other forms of communications, etc.); manage all aspects of digital media, including our mobile-optimized website and blog, action alerts, outgoing e-mail program, social media, and any other forms of direct or indirect communications with the public at large or a subset of the public, including our members; manages CBF’s video strategy, internal communications, and public opinion research. The Marketing Manager will serve on the Digital Marketing and Communications Team and will report to the Assistant Director of Digital Marketing and Communications. Requirements ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Work with the Assistant Director of Digital Marketing and Communications to develop, coordinate, and analyze strategic marketing plans for select CBF programs, events, and initiatives. Execute marketing plans, including developing production and promotion timelines; drafting and/or editing promotional copy for channels like the website, social media, email marketing, advertising, blogs, etc.; setting up and sending HTML emails; working in CBF’s database (Salesforce) or email marketing platform (Blackbaud’s Luminate Online) to query and import/export audience lists for targeting; working in CBF’s project management tool (Asana) to coordinate the implementation of tactics; reporting on progress to stakeholders; compiling metrics for reporting; and crafting and delivering debriefs with insights and recommendations for future success. Liaise with program managers and other colleagues to ensure marketing and communications needs are identified and met. Collaborate with the Creative team to produce branded promotional materials. Support the organization’s content strategy from a marketing perspective, e.g. consider how to leverage content marketing to create additional opportunities for the promotion of key events, programs, products, or partnerships. Serve as a Marketing and Communications representative on cross-organizational teams, including the Event Steering Committee to ensure both program managers and Marketing and Communications team members are prepared to effectively collaborate on the development, marketing, and promotion of CBF events. Other duties as assigned. All members of the Digital Marketing and Communications Team are expected to: Have a strong visual and editorial sense and contribute to writing and editing digital content across multiple platforms utilizing CBF’s Style Guide, messaging, and the Chicago Manual of Style; Consistently maintain and report out on metrics, analyzing the effectiveness of their work while staying abreast of the latest digital media trends and best practices; Educate colleagues in the tools and techniques of digital communications and marketing to help them understand when and where such techniques will be effective; and Work as thoughtfully, nimbly, and successfully as possible with a positive, collaborative, roll-up-your sleeves, can-do attitude in a fast-paced environment. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: CBF is looking for a strategic and creative thinker with excellent writing/editing, project management, and visual skills as well as a solid understanding of and passion for marketing and the digital world. Leading candidates will have at least four years of marketing experience. The ideal candidate will be a graduate from an accredited four-year university or college majoring in Communications, English, Marketing, Policy, Environmental Science, or a related field. Knowledge of and passion for the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams is preferred. Expertise using project management software such as Asana, constituent relationship and content management systems such as Salesforce and WordPress, and other software and platforms such as Blackbaud’s Luminate Online, etc. is preferred. Working knowledge of HTML/CSS, the Adobe Creative Suite, and the Microsoft Office Suite is required. STRATEGIC IMPACT: Educates, engages, and inspires the public about the Bay and the importance of clean water while supporting the organization’s priority goals of raising money, inspiring actions, advancing policy objectives, and growing and diversifying our supporter-base. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
