As an education and preservation charity, the Museum uses the powerful link between transport and the growth of London, culture and society since 1800 to tell the story of London’s journey over the past 200 years.
The Marketing and PR Manager is responsible for leading on the development and implementation of strategic communication plans to meet Museum targets for income generation and visitor participation. This includes the promotion of exhibitions, public events and charitable programmes.

Key Accountabilities

  • The post holder will develop and implement campaigns, and manage marketing projects which will include placing media advertising, media relations and ‘sell-ins’ to media, building relationships with media, marketing and tourism organisations. A key part of the role will be to write creative and factual copy for a range of audiences and marketing channels including press releases, marketing collateral and digital.
  • Manage potentially negative media, overseeing and advising colleagues on the best strategy to take.
  • Manage relationships with external partners, agencies and consultants to ensure the Museum is working with these partners effectively and professionally.
  • Manage the production and distribution of marketing material, advancing marketing partnerships and briefing internal delivery teams on marketing activity.
  • Oversee the maintenance and regular updating of press mailing lists, marketing databases and other administration systems.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate the Museum’s press coverage and wider marketing performance in order to feedback to internal stakeholders.
  • Manage a range of internal and external events including press launches and familiarisation visits, private views, filming and photo-shoots, press visits, trade and consumer fairs.
  • Organise the production and distribution of communication materials. Ensure distribution databases are maintained and liaise with distribution companies.
  • Act as a brand guardian and help maintain the consistent application of the Museum brand. This will include working with the Museum’s Design team to produce a range of advertising and marketing materials.
  • Deputise for the Senior Communications Manager regarding various Marketing and PR activity, reactive negative media, reputational threats to the Museum and public programme activity.
