EDUCATION/ CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES

Degree or pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communication, Business or a related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires travel to some, if not all, Credit Union branch offices located in various cities/markets in southwest Virginia at various times throughout a given month (approximately 20% travel).

Responsibilities

ROLE

The Marketing Specialist position is an entry level position. This role plays a key role in ensuring Valley Star’s products, services, and campaigns are competitive, data-informed, and member-focused. This individual will support multiple lines of business through collaboration, research, content creation, and execution of strategic marketing initiatives.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate product competitiveness: Stay attuned to market conditions and member needs by conducting competitive analysis and marketing research. Identify gaps or opportunities within product lines and recommend enhancements or new offerings that align with organizational growth goals.
  • Support Marketing Planning: Oversee and contribute to marketing strategies for select business lines. Partner with department leaders to develop and execute marketing plans that align with corporate objectives.
  • Drive Marketing execution: Assist in the development and implementation of marketing programs that generate awareness, engagement, and revenue across products and services.
  • Measure and optimize campaigns: Assess Marketing efforts for ROI and effectiveness using data and analytics. Recommend adjustments and improvements to increase campaign performance and member relevance.
  • Create and edit content: Write and produce compelling marketing materials, including emails, newsletters, brochures, digital content, and internal communications. Ensure content is clear, accurate, and aligned with ValleyStar’s voice and goals.
  • Internal Liaison and project coordination: Act as a “Retail Liaison” to ensure internal stakeholder (e.g., Retail, HR Training, Mortgage) are represented in marketing strategies. Gather input and translate it into actionable marketing efforts that support departmental success.
  • Support digital and print initiatives: Assist in executing marketing projects related to online and mobile banking, member statements, scholarship programs, financial wellness, and other cross-functional initiatives.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work closely with marketing teammates to align messaging and campaign strategies across lines of business. Identify cross-promotional opportunities to amplify reach.
  • Elevate strategic execution: Serve as a tactical partner to help leadership focus on high-level strategy by owning the details of campaign execution, content production, and creative development. This includes social media, design coordination, and project follow-through.
  • Assist with community development and public relations activities and events in new and existing markets, pursuing involvement in community projects.
