SUMMARY

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Candidates must meet one of the following:
  • (1) Hold a master’s degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by COAMFTE,
  • (2) Hold a master’s degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a MFT program from a regionally accredited institution, OR,
  • (3) Hold a master’s degree or doctoral degree in a comparable mental health degree (Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry) that meets the current VA qualification standard of that profession.
  • Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to MFT positions in the GS-0182 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State. Once licensed, MFTs must maintain a full, current and unrestricted license to remain qualified for employment. Loss of licensure will result in removal from the GS-0182 MFT series and may result in termination of employment.
  • English Language Proficiency: MFTs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3j.

Responsibilities

DUTIES

This position is multidisciplinary and maybe filled as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist or a Social Worker at the Supervisory or Program Manager level.

Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as a Marriage & Family Therapist Program Manager, RCS Vet Center Director (VCD) and is responsible for the professional and administrative supervision and oversight of all readjustment counseling, outreach, referrals and follow-up care coordination services provided to eligible individuals within the designated Vet Center Service Area (VSA).
  • VCD is responsible for the professional & administrative supervision and oversight of all readjustment counseling, outreach, referrals, and follow-up care coordination services provided to eligible individuals within the designated Vet Center Service Area (VSA).
  • Oversees the fiscal, contractual, and operational obligations of the community-based Vet Center
  • Leads coordination and briefing during meetings with Congressional representatives and their staff
  • Assumes the Lead role in planning, establishing, and implementing Vet Center policies and procedures, developing staff goals and objectives, as well as monitoring, coordinating, and evaluating the work of all Vet Center Staff, including Hybrid Title 38 Mental Health Professionals recognized as licensed independent practitioners, Title 5 Readjustment Counselors, outreach workers, and program support assistants.
  • Provides direct readjustment counseling services within and outside of the Vet Center to include Face-to-face and virtual services based on client preference
  • Collaborates with divergent multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive client care
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm - occasional evenings and weekends may be required dependent upon the needs of the Vet Center
