ABOUT YOU

• No experience is required in Stone Masonry / Production / Labouring as full training provided however if you do have any experience this would be beneficial.
• You may have transferable skills if you have worked in a manual handling / trade related industry e.g. as a Labourer / groundsperson or in a production / construction / warehouse / retail / funeral role.
• If you are looking for a change of direction and have the desire to learn we can train you in everything you need to know.
• An interest in a career in stone masonry would be beneficial.
• Able bodied as there will be manual handling and heavy lifting involved in this line of work. PPE will be provided for your safety.
• Excellent attention to detail and understands the need for quality work.
• A team player who enjoys keeping busy and helping others to get the job done.
• Respectful of machinery and working in a way that ensures the health and safety of you and your colleagues.
• Flexible approach to working hours- including evenings and/or weekends if required (occasional overtime may be available).
• A clean driving licence is required to use the forklift truck.

We have a vacancy for a Masonry Operative to join our friendly team based at our Head Office workshop in Basildon, Essex.
AK Lander has been in the memorial and masonry industry for over 150 years, and with a team of over 20 staff we have an excellent reputation in our field of expertise.
Like many of our employees, you might not have considered this industry before, however with industry training provided and on-going career development, there are opportunities for you to learn and grow.

THE ROLE

To work flexibly within the masonry team to produce high quality memorials for the funeral sector. You will have a mixed role covering all elements of the manufacturing process of headstones and other memorial items ready for the fixing team to fix and finish on site.

• Accept and check materials into the factory in accordance with the delivery paperwork and store in the correct location.
• Set-up the materials to check for defects including dowel alignment and component parts.
• Operate mechanical handling equipment as required once full training has taken place.
• Prepare and complete inscriptions on the materials in accordance with client specifications.
• Movement of completed works to the relevant storage area ready for dispatch.
• To complete correspondence as and when required in relation to deliveries and dispatch.
• Ensure the yard and site are kept clean and tidy.
• Assist with stocktaking activities when required.
• General cleaning duties.
• Adherence with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
• Ensure the Westerleigh Group Values (Safety First, Exceptional Care, Uniquely Personal, One Team) are consistently demonstrated.
• Complete Learn in-house modular training and attend all Westerleigh Group arranged training and induction events.
