Institute for Molecular Bioscience Full-time (100%), permanent position Base salary will be in the range $117,958.12 - $132,247.57+ 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 8) Based at our St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity As the Mass Spectrometry Platform Manager, you will lead the strategic and operational delivery of the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) Mass Spectrometry Platform. This pivotal role sits at the intersection of discovery science, advanced technology and collaborative research, enabling researchers to push the boundaries of molecular and biomedical innovation. Working within a highly inquisitive and collaborative environment, you will ensure the platform delivers high‑quality, sustainable and future‑focused services that support world‑leading research outcomes. Key responsibilities will include: Managing the IMB Mass Spectrometry Platform to deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective analytical and technical services to internal and external users. Developing and implementing complex and novel mass spectrometry workflows across diverse biological matrices. Providing expert technical advice, training and research support across all stages of the research lifecycle, from experimental design to publication. Leading strategic planning, asset lifecycle management, budgeting and stakeholder engagement to ensure the platform’s long‑term impact and sustainability. About You You will bring deep technical expertise, strategic capability and a passion for enabling research excellence. You will also demonstrate: Postgraduate qualifications in chemistry, biochemistry or analytical science, together with extensive experience in mass spectrometry, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training. Extensive hands‑on experience in mass spectrometry, including protein, peptide, lipid and small molecule applications. Proven experience in developing and applying innovative and contemporary approaches within a competitive research based mass spectrometry environment. Strong knowledge and demonstrated ability to operate/troubleshoot chromatography systems and techniques, including nano, micro and analytical flow HPLC. Advanced competency with contemporary mass spectrometry data processing software and associated systems. Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot and optimise complex scientific instrumentation, including routine cleaning and maintenance of HPLC and MS systems Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
