MASTER’S THESIS IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING (D/F/M)

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled Master student (d/f/m) of aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or similar
  • Good understanding of structural dynamics
  • Good theoretical foundations in the structural analysis with the finite element method including first practical experience, ideally with Hypermesh and MSC Nastran
  • Good knowledge in signal processing and related programming, e.g. with Matlab
  • Good experience with Windows and UNIX IT infrastructure including standard tools like MS Office.
  • First experience with vibro-acoustic analyses would be a valuable asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills are required.Fluent English is mandatory, German would be a valuable asset.

  • This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Responsibilities

We have several topics related to structural analyses of satellites, instruments and mechanisms available, which will be discussed with the candidates during the selection process. Doing your final year project with us involves performing several of the following tasks:

  • Create Finite Element (FE) Models of satellite structures, instruments or components. FE models have to be compliant to department standards and good practices.
  • Conduct linear static, sine and random vibration as well as vibro-acoustic structural analyses.
  • Conduct thermoelastic distortion analyes.
  • Perform structural assessments by means of hand calculations
  • (Further-)develop tools in Matlab or in a Hypermesh scripting interface language for the automatization of analysis pre-/ postprocessing tasks
  • Understand and prepare technical documentation in English or German
