Description

Position: Senior Diagnostic / Master Technician
Location: Hatters Garage – Stockport
Salary: £40,000–£48,000 (depending on experience) + Overtime + Bonus Scheme
Hours: Mon–Fri (8:30am–5:30pm)
About Us
Hatters Garage is a busy independent repair and service centre based in Stockport. We’ve grown rapidly and now look after both retail customers and trade work for some of the biggest car retailers in the area. With more cars coming through our doors than ever before, we’re now looking for an experienced technician to raise our technical capabilities and support our expanding team.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Diagnostic / Master Technician to take a leading role in the workshop. This role is critical to ensuring every vehicle we prepare, service, and repair is completed to the highest standard.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead on complex diagnostics, electrical faults, and drivability issues.
  • Mentor and support junior staff (apprentice + mid-level techs).
  • Oversee quality control on vehicles before they are returned to customers or trade partners.
  • Carry out repairs, servicing, and mechanical work to a high standard.
  • Liaise with Workshop Manager to ensure parts are correctly sourced and jobs are booked efficiently.

The Person

  • Minimum 5 years’ proven experience in a senior diagnostic or master technician role (not just general workshop experience).
  • Strong ability to use modern diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Calm, methodical, and focused on quality rather than rushing.
  • Team player, willing to mentor and raise standards across the garage.
  • IMI accreditation or similar at senior/master technician level (or working towards) preferred, but not essential if proven ability.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with overtime available.
  • Bonus scheme linked to quality (not just speed).
  • Modern workshop facilities and supportive management.
  • Opportunity to lead diagnostics and be the “go-to” expert in the team.
