In order to support the non destructive test development, Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Master thesis student (d/f/m) in the field of Additively Manufactured Components in order to Investigate the Correlation Between Mechanical Properties and Process Compensated Resonance Testing (PCRT).

You are looking for a master thesis and want to get to know the work of a Non-Destructive Testing Developper? Then apply now! We look forward to you supporting us in the department as a Masterand (d/f/m)!

  • Location: Donauwörth
  • Start: Second semester but can be adapted
  • Duration: 6 months

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled full-time student in the area of mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science, or non-destructive testing (or an equivalent field of study).
  • You demonstrate a strong analytical mindset, solution-oriented thinking, independence, and a willingness to learn.
  • You have the ability to work collaboratively in an international environment, liaising with development, production, industrialization, and quality assurance departments.
  • You are resilient and enjoy working in a dynamic and cutting-edge research topic
  • Fluent in German and English
Please upload the following documents: cover letter, CV, relevant transcripts, enrollment certificate, study regulation.

Responsibilities
  • Use specimens from serial production that reflect real-world conditions and variability to conduct PCRT measurements. Record the corresponding mechanical properties, including Young’s modulus, elongation at break, yield strength, and ultimate tensile strength.
  • Expand the existing database using these specimens to establish reliable correlations between PCRT data and mechanical properties, ensuring statistical reliability.
  • Conduct in-depth correlation analysis to precisely link PCRT data with specific mechanical properties by focusing mainly on critical parameters (yield strength and elongation at break), enabling the development of accurate predictive models.
  • Design a quantitative predictive framework that maps resonance data to actual mechanical properties, offering insights beyond simple binary quality classifications used in previous research.
  • Validate the developed model with additional serial production specimens to ensure robustness to confirm its reliability and applicability to serial production.
