Responsibilities

The Material Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all materials used in infrastructure projects meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and safety. This role involves conducting QAQC site and system monitoring duties, as well as inspecting and supervising works related to materials inspection and laboratory testing. Upon completion of tasks, the Material Engineer reports findings and recommendations to the Quality Manager for approval and further action.

  • Conduct daily monitoring of site activities to ensure they meet the requirements of the related documentation.
  • Oversee the delivery, storage, and usage of materials related to site activities on a daily basis.
  • Monitor the executed works on site to ensure they align with the design specifications.
  • Ensure all involved parties maintain compliance with the project requirements.
  • Assist the PMC Operations Team with Method Statement, ITP, and material reviews.
  • Participate in punch lists, testing, and commissioning monitoring and verification.
  • Attend package-related meetings to present and discuss site quality-related issues.
  • Track QA progress, identify issues, and potential trends, including Quality Alerts.
  • Provide written weekly and/or ad hoc quality reports to the Quality Manager and Project Manager.
  • Have good experience in landscape, roads, sewerage, water, irrigation, and stormwater materials.
  • Be familiar with the project’s detailed drawings, specifications, and health and safety measures, along with any associated updates.
  • Ensure the contractor’s compliance with the standards and specifications of the contract documents.
  • Maintain records of the contractor’s human and equipment daily resources.
  • Undertake all site supervision and inspections as required or instructed by the Resident Engineer (RE) or the Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE).
  • Liaise and follow up daily with the contractor to ensure they are managing their resources, health and safety, and equipment needs on the site.
  • Prepare daily reports for the RE or ARE, including work orders, materials delivery, and daily inspection programs.
  • Follow up and implement any site instructions given by the RE and ARE.
  • Apply and implement all quality controls and procedures on the site.
  • Prepare any site measurements and surveying checks needed by the RE or ARE for pipe alignments and levels.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with the client project manager during site inspections in the presence of the RE or ARE.
  • Assist the ARE and RE in preparing any correspondences in compliance with the contract documents and site requirements.
  • Work with the RE or ARE to promptly resolve any site problems that arise.
  • Monitor the start-up, commissioning, and handover of the site works, including maintaining records of project milestones.
  • Maintain records of materials tests performed and executed works.
  • Audit inspections to ensure conformity with contract documents and contractor-submitted plans.
