POSITION SUMMARY:

The Material Handler is responsible for transporting, storing, and organizing raw materials and finished products used in the packaging process. This role ensures inventory accuracy, supports the packaging team, and operates material handling equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in material handling or warehouse environments preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory control processes is an advantage.
  • Experience with material handling equipment such as forklifts is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs, frequently bending, lifting, and twisting.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Able to work in an environment with fluctuating temperatures, noise levels, and exposure to industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

Material Movement:

  • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to transport raw materials (aluminum coil/packaging supplies) to and from production areas.
  • Stack materials in designated storage areas, ensuring proper organization for easy access.

Inventory Control:

  • Track material usage and inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess.
  • Conduct regular stock counts and audits to verify inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure all materials are properly labeled and stored in accordance with safety regulations and operational needs.

Packaging Support:

  • Supply the packaging department with required materials such as boxes, stretch film, shrink wrap, and other packaging components.
  • Ensure materials are organized and staged for easy access by packaging operators.
  • Ensure materials are properly prepared and ready for use by verifying quality and quantity.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring proper storage of materials to minimize risks.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

  • Conduct daily checks on forklifts and other material handling equipment to ensure proper functioning, reporting any maintenance issues to the supervisor.
  • Assist in minor repairs or adjustments to equipment as needed.
