About the Company SC Steel, LLC was established January 2, 2018, as a subsidiary of FabSouth and acquired the assets of SMI-Owen Steel Company, Inc. on April 1, 2018. SMI-Owen Steel Company had owned the business since 1994 when they acquired it from South Carolina Steel Company. The Upstate South Carolina facility has been in operation at this location since 1952. Job Overview Moves materials from pre-fabrication departments to fab shops in a safe and efficient manner. Places materials for fit up in rough positions for fabricators. Moves materials to fab shops based on shipping schedule and other priorities. Expedites materials for quick shipment and rework due to quality issues. We are currently hiring for: Day Shift / Mon-Thurs. / 6:00AM-6:00PM Night Shift / Mon-Thurs. / 6:00PM-6:00AM Weekend Shift / Fri-Sun / 6:00AM-6:30PM Roles and Responsibilities Material Handling & Organization Receive and stage detail material for main members. Organize and place materials close to the installation area to support fitters and welders. Group repetitive parts (such as truss connections, embed plates, and angles) for efficient use. Main Member & Batch Deliveries Move and stage main members in batches, bringing in only what space allows. Track and confirm all pieces have been received and moved into the fabrication shop. Shop Support Assist fitters and welders with positioning, rolling, or moving beams. Support painters by moving material into and out of the paint area. Rearrange work stands and equipment as needed for special assemblies (e.g., trusses). Production Flow & Bottleneck Support Prioritize work that keeps fitting and welding moving efficiently. Ensure fitters, welders, and painters have the tools, supplies, and material needed to maximize productivity. Additional Preferred Experience Ability to read and interpret Structural fabrication drawings. Experience operating overhead cranes up to 15 ton capacity. Able to calculate total lift weight of multiple pieces and determine correct lift points using single or multiple hoists. General Tools Required Tape Measures – 12ft-30ft, 50ft, 100ft Hands Free tools Education/Training High School Diploma or GED Additional Expectations Safety – Our basic philosophy is to not take chances – “No amount of personal risk is worth any amount of production.” Quality – Focus on identifying root causes of malfunctions/breakages and put in place repairs that will eliminate recurrence.
