POSITION SUMMARY

A Material Handling and Shipping Expert is responsible for coordination and sequencing of materials necessary for the efficient execution of production and sales orders. The Material Handling and Shipping Expert will have key responsibilities in shipping/receiving, inventory management, work order scheduling, and warehouse operations. This person is a key member of our manufacturing team. He or she will be cross trained in all areas of the factory, ensuring maximum flexibility and productivity in daily operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Formal or informal education in inventory management and shipment of goods over land/sea/air is required.
  • Minimum Experience required: 5-20+ years expertise in coordination of resources, inventory management, and shipping/receiving in a manufacturing environment is required. Salary will be adjusted depending on experience and capabilities.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sustain extended periods of standing and sitting, as well as frequent kneeling, bending, and crouching.
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift packages weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stretch/reach over and under pallets and other shipping packages to build and secure loads for transportation.
  • Must be able to maintain electronic inventory systems, including within an ERP and spreadsheets using standard desktop computer workstations.
  • Must be able to properly use and maintain PPE and follow PPE policies and rules. Note, must be able to fit test and use an air purifying respirator.
  • Responsible for use of various hand tools and equipment to build and secure transportation packages.
  • Must be able to sustain extended periods of fork truck operation and frequent mount/dismount of the fork truck for shipping operations.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Technical Skills: Must have demonstrated expertise in organization and coordination of resources to meet a manufacturing schedule. Demonstrated expertise in compliant shipping over land and air preferred.
  • Organizational Skills: Must be able to prioritize and organize requests and orders within a manufacturing environment. Must be able to multi-task to the extent that inbound and outbound shipments occur continuously and sometimes unexpectedly.
  • Lean Manufacturing: 5S/Clean/Organized: Must believe that a clean and organized work environment is a safer and more productive work environment. Should be Lean Manufacturing trained and have experience/examples delivering results through lean efforts.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate in English at a proficiency to interact and solve problems within your team and to interact with freight logistics partners. You should b e able to create concise and accurate Standard Operator Procedures and be able to effectively train others within the procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Learn and follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Support manufacturing material flow from staging of raw materials through finished goods packaging and shipping.
  • Process manufacturing work orders through the ERP system
  • Maintain chemical and equipment storage areas and ensure accuracy between physical inventory and ERP virtual inventory.
  • Package and label product in compliance with DOT and IATA regulations.
  • Facilitate transportation of goods through routine interactions with freight logistics companies, including OTR haulers, Freight Forwarders, Ports, Airlines and other industry professionals.
  • Process required paperwork for shipment of hazardous and non-hazardous materials for DOT, IMDG, and IATA transport.
  • Place purchase orders to maintain production materials and consumables inventories.
  • Organize and clean materials storage areas.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
