Job Summary The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the timely availability of materials to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements. The role involves material planning, inventory management, shortage resolution, supplier coordination, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations. The Material Planner works closely with Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Warehouse, Quality, Sales, and Project teams to maintain material availability, inventory accuracy, and operational efficiency. In addition, the role is responsible for ERP/MRP system management, BOM revision control, KPI monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning effectiveness, inventory performance, and on-time delivery achievement. Key Responsibilities 1. Material Planning & Forecasting Analyze Available-to-Promise (ATP) to determine material availability and validate customer demand requirements and forecasts. Execute daily MRP exception messages, shortage reports, and demand changes to ensure timely material availability. Evaluate demand and supply alignment periodically and update material requirements plans accordingly. Monitor material requirements and prioritize critical material availability based on business needs and customer commitments. 2. Inventory Management Manage inventory positions, material allocations, and ATP balances with a focus on critical and constrained materials. Review and maintain inventory policies, including safety stock levels, planning parameters, and buffer strategies. Coordinate inventory repositioning activities resulting from forecast changes, engineering changes (ECN), and product lifecycle transitions. Minimize excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory while ensuring supply continuity. 3. Supply, Risk & Contingency Management Monitor supplier delivery commitments and ensure alignment with material requirements plans. Manage material shortages and implement recovery plans to support production schedules. Execute supply risk mitigation activities, including expediting, de-expediting, alternative sourcing, and material substitution. Secure supply for long lead-time items (LLI) and constrained materials based on demand forecasts and supply risk assessments. Escalate critical supply issues and coordinate corrective actions with relevant stakeholders. 4. Production Support Ensure Clear-to-Build (CTB) status is achieved prior to Manufacturing Order (MO) release. Coordinate material constraints, shortages, and recovery plans with Production Planning teams. Support production prioritization decisions based on material readiness and business priorities. Provide visibility of material readiness risks and their potential impact on production output and customer deliveries. Participate in production planning and execution meetings to ensure material readiness alignment. 5. Cross-Functional Coordination Collaborate with Procurement, Sourcing, and Internal Supply teams on material availability, supplier recovery actions, and escalations. Coordinate with Engineering teams on material substitutions and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) implementation. Work closely with Production teams to ensure material readiness supports manufacturing schedules. Communicate supply risks, delivery commitments, and mitigation plans to Project, Sales, and Account Management teams. Support continuous improvement initiatives across planning and supply chain processes. 6. System & Data Accuracy Maintain accurate and up-to-date ERP/SAP master data, supply commitments, and material availability information. Ensure timely updates for demand changes, supply changes, BOM revisions, and engineering changes. Monitor planning parameters and data integrity within the ERP/MRP system. Generate and analyze planning reports, KPIs, and inventory performance metrics. Job Requirements Education Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related discipline. Professional certifications such as APICS CPIM, CSCP, or equivalent will be an added advantage. Experience Minimum 2–5 years of experience in Material Planning, Production Planning, Supply Chain, Inventory Management, or related functions within a manufacturing environment. Experience working with ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing setting. Exposure to high-mix, low-volume and/or mass production environments is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP), ERP systems, and inventory control principles. Knowledge of supply chain management, demand planning, and production planning processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage material shortages and supply risks effectively. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, data analysis, and reporting tools. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Familiarity with SAP or other ERP systems is preferred.
