Required

  • Solid organization and prioritization skills with attention to detail and the ability to track and document activities and progress over time
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with paid staff and volunteers
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English, as well as proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Ability to respect and handle confidential material with discretion and relate well to people from many life stages and various cultures with a pleasant and professional demeanor.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and regularly perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and walking
  • Occasional availability on Saturdays or evenings
  • High School Diploma plus minimum 3 years relevant experience
  • First Aid, CPR/AED, and Food Handler’s certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Experience with MCC’s Material Resources program

LOCATION DESCRIPTION

This role will work out of the MCC Hub at 65 Heritage Drive, New Hamburg Ontario

Community Education and Promotion

  • Collaborate with the 65 Heritage Management team in preparing and presenting to staff, volunteers, donors, and the public about MCC Thrift and Material Resources activities.
  • Help deliver age-appropriate group education sessions during group visits.
  • Collaborate with MCC’s Marketing & Communications team to share stories and promote Material Resources.
  • Support Material Resources campaigns and fundraising events (e.g., meat sales) as needed
Responsibilities

Volunteer Engagement and Support

  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, supervising Material Resources volunteers. Support the coordination of volunteer activities, training, appreciation events, and scheduling.
  • Schedule, supervise and support cannery and processing volunteers. Assist the MCC Cannery Manager with volunteer training related to food safety.
  • Foster meaningful volunteer experiences and educate participants on the impact of their contributions.
  • Work with others on the Material Resources team to plan and facilitate volunteer group visits to the MCC Hub.
  • Liaise with appropriate service providers to assist with logistics for groups visiting from a distance.
  • Maintain the Material Resources volunteer database (Apricot) profile, ensuring it remains current and accurate.
  • Collect and report on volunteer feedback.

Warehouse and Program Operations

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in the Material Resources warehouse.
  • Assist with preparation and support for group packing and canning events, including logistics, and coordination and purchase of supplies. Requires occasional weekend participation.
  • Work closely with Material Resources staff and the Cannery Manager to facilitate the flow of supplies and shipments.
  • Contribute to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Committee.
  • Assist the MCC Cannery manager during production days.

Community Education and Promotion

  • Respond to inquiries regarding volunteering and facility visits in a timely manner.

Other
