About the Role As the Material Services Director, you will lead the Library’s Technical Services and Circulation Teams to ensure that materials and services flow seamlessly to patrons, helping our community discover, access, and benefit from Library resources. Your position on the Leadership Team will allow you to collaborate with other department directors and managers to help the library create a more informed, connected, and engaged community. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, IMRF pension program, paid time off, as well as other related benefits. The pay range for this position is $80,142 to $93,000 annually. Offers are made within this range based on competencies, experience, and internal equity. What You’ll Get to Do · Oversee all aspects of cataloging, processing, and circulation to provide patrons with efficient and reliable access to materials. · Serve as the library’s ILS Administrator and ensure that technology enhances the patron experience by providing convenience, efficiency, and discovery. · Manage non-traditional offerings such as passport, notary, license plate renewal, and yard waste sticker services, making the library a destination for our community. · Hire, train, and support staff, fostering professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback. · Work alongside the Leadership Team to set organizational goals, contribute to strategic initiatives, and guide policy development. · Develop and implement departmental objectives based on the Library’s strategic focus areas and goals. · Maintain a high-level of customer service and promote a culture of courtesy, responsiveness, and innovation in every interaction. · Engage with local, state, and national professional organizations while building your own skills through continuing education and training. · Develop the Material Services budget and actively participate in the Library’s budgeting process. · Serve as the Person in Charge by implementing library policies and working closely with staff to resolve issues. · Perform other duties as assigned. What You’ll Bring to the Role Education/Experience/Qualifications · B.A. or B.S. Degree from an accredited college or university · Five years' work experience in a public library, at least two of which are in a Circulation or Technical Services managerial position · Previous experience with ILS software required Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities · Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, support, and develop staff. · Excellent interpersonal skills, with a talent for building positive relationships across diverse staff and patron populations. · Ability to set goals, delegate effectively, communicate expectations productively, and manage multiple projects. · Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with sound judgment in routine and non-routine situations. · High level of technological proficiency, including ILS administration, Windows, Excel, and word processing tools. · Flexibility to adapt to changing workflows and the ability to work evenings, weekends, and be “on call” as needed. · Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, and stoop on an occasional basis. · Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and ability to reach overhead. · Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. on an occasional basis.
