SUMMARY

The Materials and Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for managing laboratory inventory, supply chain logistics, and materials handling to support in vivo laboratory operations. This role ensures efficient and compliant management of supplies, reagents, and equipment, contributing to operational excellence and laboratory safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or related field required; relevant experience in laboratory inventory, supply chain, or materials management preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with LIMS, ERP, and inventory management systems is a plus.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety and compliance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift and move laboratory supplies and equipment as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Inventory Management & Supply Chain Operations


    • Assume accountability for the laboratory inventory plan, including tracking, ordering, and categorizing supplies, reagents, cell lines, and proteins.



      • Manage incoming supply chain processes to maintain inventory levels and fulfill custom order requests, working with vendors for timely and quality deliveries.



        • Track inventory, anticipate needs, and reorder supplies as required to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.



          • Develop and maintain inventory systems for traceability and efficiency, integrating with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms as appropriate.

          • Shipping, Receiving & Logistics


            • Oversee the logistics for shipping and receiving sensitive samples, ensuring compliance with regulations, proper packaging, and coordination with couriers.



              • Generate and manage shipping documentation, including customs paperwork and shipping labels.



                • Efficiently and safely package materials for delivery, ensuring secure transit and delivery confirmation.

                • Instrument & Reagent Handling


                  • Support routine instrument maintenance by tracking, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance, calibrations, and repairs.



                    • Handle reagents, including aliquoting, labeling, storage, and logistics, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

                    • Safety, Compliance & Waste Management


                      • Assist with laboratory safety training, compliance measures, and the development and delivery of training programs.



                        • Coordinate with waste management teams and support hazardous waste management activities, ensuring safe and compliant disposal.



                          • Participate in laboratory safety committees and contribute to the development and implementation of new safety protocols.

                          • Continuous Improvement & Training


                            • Identify opportunities for improvement in inventory management, shipping/receiving, and waste management, and assist in developing and implementing new procedures.



                              • Train new team members on inventory management, shipping, receiving, and waste management procedures; provide feedback and delegate tasks as needed.



                                • Contribute to sound documentation practices for applicable policies and procedures1.

                                  • Build productive working relationships with laboratory team members to support fluctuating needs and timelines.



                                    • Communicate proactively about inventory changes, supply deadlines, and procedural updates to ensure alignment across teams.
