The Boeing Defense Systems Materials and Process Technology team is seeking a high performing, motivated and self-starting Materials and Process Technology Manager to join our team in Berkeley, Missouri, to support the Air Proprietary 1 Program.
The successful candidate will manage a team of engineers responsible for providing Materials & Process Engineering (M&PE) support in the following skill areas - Composites & Bonding, Metals, Finishes/Coatings, Specialty Materials, Mechanical and Electrical Assembly. The team is responsible for supporting materials development, air vehicle engineering, production engineering, operations, supply chain, mission systems, systems engineering, quality, and fleet sustainment.
This position will manage approximately 20 engineers and will have responsibility, authority, and accountability for day-to-day operations in coordination with program Integrated Product Team (IPT) management. The candidate will interface with other team leaders within BDS and BR&T organizations as well as with external Customers on a regular basis. Successful candidates will apply knowledge and a varied set of experiences toward facilitating, directing, and leading multi-disciplined groups, both technical and non-technical, in order to accomplish common goals/objectives in support of the Air Proprietary 1 Program.
This role not only emphasizes technical and leadership excellence but also champions a culture of continuous improvement, empowering your team to meet engineering requirements, achieve operational excellence and deliver exceptional results in a fast-paced aerospace environment. Strong customer focus, communication, prioritization and project management skills are required as the team balances a dynamic and broad work scope.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 8+ years’ engineering experience
  • 3+ years’ experience working with development or production program engineering
  • Experience leading or managing engineering teams.
  • Experience in materials and process engineering support.
  • Experience in leading or managing complex projects

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Active U.S. Secret Clearance
  • MBA, Masters in Engineering Management or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical, materials, mechanical, or metallurgical engineering
  • Experience in the aerospace industry, particularly with military or defense programs.
  • Knowledge of Boeing’s organizational processes, program plans, and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability in budget management, Earned Value Management and business process improvement
  • Experience working with industry and military specifications and standards
  • Experience working with aerospace programs, production and supply chain stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management, customers, and partners.
  • Ability to build a safe environment of inclusion, transparency, and trust.
  • Leadership skills to lead and influence positive outcomes.
  • Previous experience in leading, mentoring, and engaging individuals and teams.

Responsibilities
  • Partners with program and engineering leadership to establish technical strategies
  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures, and sets operational goals
  • Acquires resources for projects and processes to meet program and organizational goals
  • Plans and manages program and overhead budgets, schedules, and technical performance
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships to promote collaboration with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
  • Provides oversight, guidance and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
  • Engages and promotes professional development and motivation of team members to achieve high performance including conducting performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, employee recognition, and training
  • Assesses and adjusts priorities within cost and schedule constraints and assesses the technical risks associated with decisions made by the team and the impact of these risks on cost/schedule performance
  • Reduces the price of products and services within area of responsibility by transitioning technology, innovations and best practices to use in day-to-day operations
