Description
Overview Element has an opportunity for a Materials Engineer at the Materials Lab embedded within the Rolls Royce manufacturing facility. This role will provide technical assistance to the Rolls Royce customer and Element co-workers, with focus on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement. Element is driving toward achieving a NADCAP quality system accreditation. All job duties and functions support accreditation efforts. Salary: $65,000 - $85,000.00 yearly DOE Responsibilities • Candidate must be a US Citizen.• Perform sample preparation steps of section, mount, grind, and polish metallurgical test specimens following laboratory procedures published by customer and relevant industry specifications including ASTM E3• Perform Tensile, Rockwell Hardness and Microhardness tests per ASTM E8/A370, ASTM E18 and ASTM E384.• Perform metallurgical evaluations and issue reports. Evaluations include grain size per ASTM E112, intergranular attack/oxidation per ASTM F2111, traditional/abusive machining evaluation, SEM/EDS analysis of debris and contamination, coating and plating thickness, and others.• Perform weekly and monthly sieve analysis of media for production department. • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including 5S and preventative maintenance.• Provide technical guidance and support to lab technicians and requestors.• Meet and interact with Rolls Royce requesters to define evaluation processes and techniques. • Review existing procedures for accuracy and compliance to NADCAP standards Skills / Qualifications Required:4 Year Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering2+ years of experience with metallurgical testing in a laboratory environmentProficient in Microsoft office productsPreferred:NADCAP or ISO quality system exposure or experienceAerospace industry exposure or experience #LI-SN1 Diversity Statement At Element, we always take pride in putting our people first.
