Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) is actively seeking a Material Lab Technician to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in West Columbia, SC to support various transportation projects with the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Once qualified candidates have been identified, you will be contacted by the recruiting team for the next steps.   Position Responsibilities * Ensure all materials, procedures and safety rules comply with the latest SCDOT standards * Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet quality requirements of the project specifications * Material sampling of concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and aggregates * Perform laboratory and field testing of construction materials and test data analysis to include soils, aggregates, reinforcing steel, concrete asphalt, and masonry * Receives samples, prepares samples, performs testing in accordance with AASHTO/AMRL or state standards, prepares testing reports, and reports any issues to Material Manager * Maintain documentation for certification and calibration of testing equipment * Required to demonstrate proficiency by participating in AMRL/CCRL proficiency samples as well as on-site assessments * Assist with routine maintenance of equipment as needed * Material Lab Technician will be responsible for document control * Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives * Attend meetings and interact with client and third-party personnel * Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations Qualifications and Requirements * HS diploma or equivalent required * Associates or BS Degree in Civil Engineering desired * 3 or more years of civil materials testing on large surface and bridge projects preferred * Knowledge of AASHTO/ASTM testing procedures and accreditation process desired * Must have math calculation skills, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) experience * Strong written and communication skills required * Current driver’s license with good 3-year driving record is required
Responsibilities
Perform laboratory and field testing on construction materials including concrete, asphalt, and soils to ensure compliance with SCDOT standards. Manage documentation for equipment calibration and report test results to the Material Manager.
