    About Us: Geochempet Services, a specialist petrographic, geological, and geochemical company, is based in Clontarf, north of Brisbane. We collaborate with top-tier and second-tier companies in the civil construction and mining industries. As a division of Trilab, Australasia’s leading independent supplier of specialised soil and rock testing, we offer exceptional expertise and resources.
    Geochempet is part of the Kiwa Group of companies, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services across more than 40 countries.
    About The Role: Join Geochempet Services as a Full-time or Part-time Laboratory Technician and play a hands-on role in our team. Your main task? Creating “Thin Sections” of concrete, rock, and aggregate samples in our laboratory. These thin slices, mounted on glass slides, help our Geologists analyze and report on the samples. Pay rates below.
    This isn’t your average lab job—be ready to get your hands dirty! It’s a hands-on, no-white-coat-needed role, ideal for those who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and dive in. This position is open to everyone but could be an excellent opportunity for those with an interest in geology to gain hands-on lab experience. While it’s not a Geologist role, you’ll work closely with our broader team, with potential pathways into geology roles in the future.
Responsibilities
  • Assisting in photographing of concrete and rock samples;
  • Assisting in preparation of aggregates, sands, concrete, and rock samples for petrography examination including cutting hand samples, resining material and mounting billets
  • Assisting in the storing, organizing and disposal of samples;
  • Ability to manufacture thin sections or the ability to learn to use and properly operate equipment such as lapidary grinding and polishing tools, saws, and thin section equipment
  • Understanding of the importance of workshop and laboratory safety protocols and the implementation of such protocols;
  • Assist with maintaining change of custody for all samples
  • Maintenance of clean workspaces and clean equipment.
