Description
Description Responsible for distribution and storage of materials delivered to the Materials Management Department. Responsible for the computerized inventory control system throughout the facility. This position is also responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection prevention and control practices. Must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the hospital. Able to accept new ideas and learn position duties. Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities. Requirements Qualifications Must be a high school graduate or equivalent Previous experience in a hospital setting preferred Role and Responsibilities Delivers supplies and equipment to the user departments in an efficient and timely manner. Receives and fills all supply requisitions, from departments, that are not replenished by the computerized inventory control system. Checks all orders received to assure accuracy and completeness. Interfaces directly with staff members of the user departments to determine the need for additions or deletions to the computerized inventory control system for their department. Collects patient supply charges for processing. Maintains all areas of materials storage in a neat and organized manner. All supplies are taken out of the original shipping box for storage. Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies kept in storeroom. Restocks utilizing proper rotation (first in, first out), organization, identification, documentation and proper location of stock items. Properly handles and stores sterile items to maintain sterility. Maintains all equipment utilized in transporting supplies in a manner that ensures reliable and safe operation. Notifies the Material Management Director when supplies or special orders are needed. Requires minimal supervision in performance of job duties. Understands how to prioritize responsibilities to ensure completion of duties. Is a self-starter; initiates the meeting of responsibilities without prompting. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Communicates clearly and appropriately to the Materials Management Director and co-workers. Cleans, assembles and sterilizes instrument sets following established procedures. Regularly checks dates on crash carts, exchanging and re-supplying as necessary. Properly cleans and decontaminates equipment and supplies. Ensures proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis. Assures that all usable patient equipment is in proper operating condition. Inputs patient charges into the computer in a timely and accurate manner. Regularly rotates and checks sterility dates and condition of non-disposable instrument trays. Maintains accurate equipment and sterilization records. Works closely with General Accounting personnel to assure that all contract and special prices are honored. Arranges for goods to be returned for credit and/or repair. Assist in inventories. Researches information on supplies and equipment for assigned departments. Collects and processes out-going mail. Maintains the department in a clean and orderly manner. Takes weekend call. Responds within the 30 minutes response time when on-call. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Adjust work hours/schedule to meet the needs and demands of the department and hospital Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates Competency in the following areas Properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers, gas and steam, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control tests as required by department. Maintains preventive maintenance procedures and control procedure on electrical heating and cooling units. Completes repair orders for Engineering Department for any unit found inoperable. Receives and delivers supplies and fill requisition requests. Assists with monitoring and maintaining stock in storeroom. Restocks patient care unit supply carts and reconciles charges if necessary. If needed, makes out lost charge sheet and gives to Nurse Manager. Assists in fixing charge tags or stickers on all items requiring same. Performs other related duties as may be assigned. Orders warehouse stock as needed. Responsible for stocking all supply carts on the nursing units. Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
