Description

We are seeking a Math Content Development Specialist to support the refinement and expansion of existing math Grades 6-8 and Algebra I instructional materials. This contractor will evaluate existing materials, create new content to address gaps, and ensure full alignment to updated academic standards and instructional pacing guides. This role requires both creative and analytical skills, a strong understanding of math pedagogy, and attention to instructional purpose and coherence.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, mathematics education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing K–12 math instructional content.
  • Deep understanding of math standards and pedagogy, with proven ability to design content that promotes conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application.
  • Experience working with state-specific standards such as TEKS, CCSS, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with instructional planning tools such as scope and sequences, unit maps, and pacing calendars.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with attention to detail and clarity.
  • Ability to self-manage, follow guidelines, and meet deadlines consistently.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in developing both print and digital instructional materials.
  • Knowledge of universal design for learning (UDL), with knowledge of extension and support activities to support all learners.
  • Proficiency with collaborative editing tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Word with tracked changes, content management platforms).
  • Previous contract or freelance curriculum development experience preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate existing math instructional materials for accuracy, completeness, instructional quality, and alignment to the most current TEKS, ELPS, and IMRA Quality and Suitability indicators.
  • Develop new lesson components, student-facing materials, teacher supports, assessments, and other instructional content to address gaps and meet client goals.
  • Realign and revise content to ensure full alignment with updated academic standards, indicators, and expectations.
  • Ensure all materials align with the client’s instructional calendar, scope and sequence, and intended pacing.
  • Write content that is grade-level appropriate, instructionally sound, and engaging for students.
  • Apply principles of backward design to ensure content supports mastery of targeted standards and learning objectives and achieves vertical alignment across curriculum grades.
  • Collaborate with content editors, project managers, QA specialists, and other writers to deliver high-quality, cohesive instructional materials.
  • Track revisions, source standards, and document alignment decisions using project-specific tools and templates.
