Title: Tutor - Math Intervention (Elementary)Classification: N/AReports to: Building PrincipalsFLSA Status: Non-ExemptEffective Date: 05/24/2024Union Status: NSSASummaryMath Interventionist to work collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide individual or small group instruction to students who are struggling academically. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance.Essential Functions(The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)Provides high quality mathematics instruction to individual students and small groups.Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level.Collaborates with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices for individual and small groups of students.Uses identified research-based interventions that focus specifically on individual student needs.Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions and about student progress.Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress.Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups.Work extensively with students to help them improve specific mathematical skills.Consultation with classroom teacher(s) to help diagnose mathematical strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials.Works collaboratively and effectively communicates with multi-disciplinary teams in development of student intervention plans.Effectively communicates student goals and progress to parents, teachers, and other relevant educational personnel.Promote interest in mathematics.Familiar with the MTSS process and instruction.Perform other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the supervisor. Minimum QualificationsMinimum of two (2) years of college; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students. Commitment to ongoing professional development.Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, Mathematics, or related field preferred; NH DOE Certification per Ed 501.02 (z) Instructional Specialist. Familiarity with a range of evidence-based intervention programs. Experience working within school settings.
Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative team approach.Knowledge, Ability, SkillKnowledge: Knowledge of best practices of principles associated with math instruction. Familiar with the MTSS process and instruction.Ability: Ability to listen, observe and interact in a positive and effective manner with people at all levels of society. Ability to deal tactfully, patiently, and appropriately with students. Ability to provide direct instruction and analyze assessment results to determine specific areas of need.Skills: Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to create a supportive network for students.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding student progress and intervention strategies. Strong coordination/organizational skills.Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Building Principal.Exercised: None.Responsibility: Math interventionists work extensively with students to help them improve specific math skills.Job EnvironmentWork is performed under typical small group and one-on-one instructional conditions.Operates computer, printer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine, and other standard office equipment.Contacts are by phone, through correspondence, and in person; they generally consist of an information exchange dialogue, discussing student intervention plans and progress as assessed and observed.Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to create a supportive network for students.Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding student progress and intervention strategies.Employee has access to confidential student information related to assignments.Physical Requirements(The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
