The Growth Company’s (GC) Education and Skills team is thrilled to announce a new opportunity for a Maths and English Tutor. This role involves planning, delivering, and assessing impactful Functional Skills and GCSE lessons to enhance learner progress and achievement.
As one of the UK’s largest providers of skills and training, we support businesses and individuals with apprenticeships, higher education, and commercial training. We work with leading businesses to enhance career prospects and productivity.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Proven experience in teaching Functional Skills and GCSE.
  • Skilled in planning and assessing for learner progress.
  • Subject-specific and teaching qualifications appropriate to the role.
  • Capable of motivating and engaging learners.
  • Strong collaboration skills with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Dedicated to improving learners’ prospects.
  • Experienced in working with ‘hard to reach’ learners.
  • Willing to travel and work flexibly.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments in line with company policy to inform the placement of learners on effective learning programs.
  • Use initial assessment outcomes and all available information to personalise learning experiences for individuals.
  • Adopt inclusive strategies to ensure support and challenge for all learners, including those with SEND, challenging behaviours, personal and social difficulties, and medical needs.
  • Effectively manage learner behaviour and classroom climate to create a secure and positive learning environment.
  • Assess learners’ work in line with company policy, providing diagnostic and personalised feedback to drive ongoing progress toward examinations.
  • Track and monitor the progress of individuals and groups to ensure rapid and sustained progress from prior attainment.
  • Identify learners at risk of underachievement and liaise with colleagues to ensure prompt and effective intervention.
  • Contribute to the development of the Maths and English team by collaborating with colleagues on resources, schemes of work, and pedagogy.
