Description:
How you’ll make a difference:
Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home offers young people a safe and caring environment, where they experience high quality care, education, recreational facilities, and life skills training. As a Maths Teacher, you will play a vital role in the home, helping to provide our young people with high quality education.
What you will be doing:
- Daily, you will design and implement an engaging mathematics curriculum for our young people, helping to promote their personal and educational development.
- As part of the curriculum, you will assist with arrangements for pupils entering external examinations.
- Working alongside colleagues, you will help oversee pupil development and ensure all young people are taught in a safe and secure environment.
- You will be responsible for a small tutor group of young people and will help to engage them in meaningful activities.
- Occasionally, you will participate in extra-curricular activities designed to enrich our young people.
What we need from you:
- It is essential that you have qualified teacher status with experience of teaching maths to pupils and curriculum planning.
- You must have a good understanding of the impact of SEND and complex trauma on educational attainment and outcomes.
- We require you to have excellent communication skills and a proven ability to build positive relationships with children and young people.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The salary is plus a Secure Unit allowance of £2,583 per annum. Annual leave can be taken during term time (subject to manager approval).
Young people can present physically threatening behaviour and the environment can become tense and anxiety provoking, so for everybody’s safety surveillance cameras are in use in most areas of the building. Meals are usually eaten with young people.
Vinney Green operates a full non-smoking environment, and there is no provision to facilitate smoking anywhere on site. Staff’s personal belongings are required to be left in a provided locker on entry into the building and we may require you to undertake a further physical fitness check.
This role is demanding and there will be some physical active aspects to the job, but we can assure you that this will be one of the most rewarding jobs that you will ever do!
Please note that due to the nature of this role, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
