Description:

We are looking to welcome a dynamic Matron to our Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy Services (SACT) Team. This role plays a crucial role, working closely with the Directorate Manager and Service Manger utilising excellent communication skills, to ensure efficient and effective leadership for the nursing team in SACT.
The post holder should be a highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse leader, who is passionate about delivering high quality, compassionate care, and who is equipped with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Working within the framework of the Modern Matron principles, the post is pivotal in ensuring clinical quality standards are not only achieved but sustained by providing visible clinical leadership and the vision for continuous improvement. The post holder must be a Registered Nurse who has proven leadership and management experience as a senior nurse at Band 7 level or above
The post holder will be responsible for a varied work portfolio which will include:
To provide leadership to ensure professional and clinical standards of excellence.
Take a lead role in service development aligning the service with other departments within the trust.
Develop and maintain communication with people to enhance business development, clinical care and service feedback
To help maximise the operational and financial performance of the department, working closely with the senior management team and other stakeholders.
To provide excellent customer service and promote a professional and caring environment from all clinical and non-clinical staff.
To manage 3rd party service providers where appropriate.
Responsible for financial / budgetary management / targets within the service.
To participate in Manager-on-call rota.
To make certain that our patients and visitors receive excellent care in a friendly, proficient manner.
Develop oneself and others in areas of practice
Appraise, interpret and apply suggestions, recommendations and directives to improve services
Promote equality and value diversity
Plan, develop and implement approaches to promote health and wellbeing and prevent adverse effects on health and wellbeing
Provide leadership and management advice to unit leaders and specialist nurses within their sphere of responsibility
There has never been a more exciting time to join the SACT Team. The Christie SACT unit is the largest single site facility in Europe. The Christie is responsible for the safe delivery of over 49,000 treatments a year. In addition, some treatments are administered in the large network of outreach services consisting other hospital sites, medical centres and hospices across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
Responsibility for patient care including monitoring, diagnostics and investigations
Promote and empower people’s potential for health and wellbeing
Support staff to engage and work effectively with a wide range of diverse people to identify their concerns about health and wellbeing
Work in partnership with relevant clinicians to plan, develop and evaluate programmes for health promotion
Work closely with members of the public and users of the service so that health and wellbeing can be promoted and implemented effectively
Act as a resource for improving health for all users of the service (workforce, patients and carers) reviewing the effectiveness of the approaches available
Protection of health and wellbeing
Take the lead in ensuring that systems are in place so that protective measures can be instigated for people at risk eg environmental risk (infection), patients being harmed/self harmed and PEAT
Provision of care
Accountable for ensuring care provision is planned appropriately to meet the needs of patients/carers
Ensures that peoples’ dignity, wishes and beliefs are respected and that they are involved in a shared decision making process
Ensures that within the context of the overall care planning process, specific goals are identified in relation to complex health and wellbeing needs, involvement of other people/agencies where appropriate
To undertake and evaluate nursing interventions consistent with evidence based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patient’s needs
To utilise highly developed physical skills where accuracy is important e.g. in preparing and giving IV injections, assembling surgical equipment, maintaining infusions
Evaluates the effectiveness of care delivery systems and makes any necessary modification
Ensures accurate and legible records (written and electronic) are maintained in accordance with Trust and national professional policies and guidelines
To provide high quality nursing care to meet the needs of the patient to ensure their privacy and dignity is respected at all times
To ensure care provided to patients by all nursing staff is appropriate to their needs and is delivered in a professional manner, whilst empowering/ encouraging patients to contribute to their wellbeing
To maintain a highly visible profile, for staff, patients and their families
To contribute to the development of the corporate function of nursing and manage the processes by which the quality of nursing care can be regularly monitored e.g. audit, clinical benchmarking, and patient questionnaires
Involve other agencies in relation to the identified needs of individuals for the benefit of their wellbeing
To investigate and respond to patient complaints ensuring that any lessons learnt are fed back to all staff
Remain clinically credible and undertake evaluations of nursing interventions to ensure evidence-based practice
The Lead Nurse will lead by example, demonstrating to nurses the high standards of care patients should expect.
Work closely with members of the public and service users to continually improve service deliver
Communications

Participate in the site on-call Rota for the Trust
Inspire others and encourage them to seek advice and solutions to problems

Challenge tradition and push the boundaries through innovation and recognise and manage risk consequences and use this learning to inform future practice
Promote the service and disseminate good practice both internal and external to the Trus
Planning and Organising
Together with the Senior Management Team contribute to the operational planning of the service in order to achieve the aims and objectives of the Division and organisation
Monitor the delivery of the service whilst promptly identifying and investigating any issues
Gain feedback on how to improve service delivery to inform future practice
Present complex information to people at Divisional level in relation to service requirements where there are identified issues with efficiency and effectiveness
To ensure the planning, management and organisation of their ward/unit environments includes the adjustment of plans/rosters to cover emergencies (i.e. rostering short term cover)
To monitor progress of work recognising changing priorities and implement corrective actions within own limits and informing the relevant people

In partnership with relevant others develops clear plans for the recruitment, deployment and management of people.

Supervise and appraise nominated staff group by establishing performance objectives and facilitating individual development opportunities
Provide professional and clinical supervision for designated practitioners demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge, judgement and decision making
Develops strategies for avoiding poor performance and addresses poor performance issues agreeing the appropriate course of action necessary to achieve this.
May lead the initial investigation of cases for presentation at HR hearings.

Supports the senior management team in the procurement and commissioning of services, products and equipment

Ensures systems are in place to monitor the delivery of goods and services

Responsible for the authorising and controlling of financial resources which includes the agreement and monitoring of all budgets within sphere of responsibility

To identify any problems with financial resource use/availability and make recommendations which are consistent with directorate objectives and organisational policies
To plan and schedule the efficient and effective use of material resources/supplies within the directorate and actively manage variances
To act as authorized signatory for delegated budgets and authorise overtime for nursing and support staff within sphere of responsibility
To effectively monitor and manage the use of locum nursing staff ensuring adherence to the Trust policy
To monitor, control and store resources/supplies according to the requirements and specifications of the clinical environment
To ensure systems are in place for patients valuables and belongings to be documented and managed according to trust policy
To ensure accurate records of resource use are maintain
