Description We are seeking a matter budget analyst with a legal background to support the financial, operational, and strategic success of the insurance defense and private client practice groups. Leveraging both financial expertise and legal experience, this role is responsible for inputting, tracking, and analyzing matter-level budgets, ensuring compliance with client billing/carrier guidelines. This is a unique role suited for a legal professional (e.g. paralegal, former case manager, or JD holder) with strong analytical skills and an understanding of insurance litigation and private client billing nuances. Duties and Responsibilities Work closely with key stakeholders to develop and maintain matter budgets for the insurance defense and private client practice groups. Ensure matter budgets and accruals comply with client-specific billing guidelines, particularly for insurance carriers. Submit budgets, accruals, and updates via client billing or litigation management systems (e.g., BillBlast, Legal Tracker, CounselLink, TyMetrix). Liaise with clients and carriers regarding financial projections, status updates, and billing audits. Generate variance reports, WIP/AR summaries, and customized dashboards for firm leadership and attorneys. Partner with attorneys, paralegals, billing specialists, and finance to ensure financial performance aligns with client service standards. Requirements 3-5 years of experience in a law firm, legal operations, or legal finance role. Associates or Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Legal Studies, Paralegal Certification or Juris Doctor (JD) preferred. Prior experience with insurance defense work preferred. Familiarity with legal billing systems and eBilling platforms preferred.
