Mayor's Summer Youth Jobs Program Job Description Position Title: Office of Public Art Project Assistant Department: Office of Public Art Location: TBD Number of open positions: 4 Anticipated Start Date: 6/8/26 End Date: 7/31/26 Hours of work per week: Up to 35 hours per week Business/Work Hours: 9:00AM - 5:00PM, FLEXIBLE BASED ON PROJECT NEEDS Pay Rate: $13/hour General Description: The purpose of this class within the organization is to implement a variety of community, recreational, cultural, special events, and other programs at City of Charleston designated facilities. This position is part of the Mayor's Summer Youth Jobs Program for individuals aged 16-20 years old. Employment dates are June 8, 2026, through July 31, 2026, with potential extensions based on availability and departmental needs. This position works under close supervision and performs duties according to established procedures. Responsibilities, tasks, and projects: Office of Public Art Project Assistant serves as an assistant to the COPA Director and functions as a project leader on COPA initiatives. Conservation and maintenance efforts Project development Project execution (i.e. prepping, painting, installation ) Office/Studio organization Clerical tasks Other duties as assigned Candidate requirements: Must be 16 years of age up to 20 years of age. Enrolled in an Arts related field of study Basic knowledge and experience painting on a large scale Basic understanding of tools and functions are executing Public Art Dress Code: Casual, often paint clothes Core Competencies: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Accountability - takes responsibility for own Adaptability - responds positively to Communications - listens, speaks and/or writes in a clear, concise and respectful manner. Responsibilities
