JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a qualified chef to join at our team at McCaskie’s Cafe in Wemyss Bay . A local cafe part of McCaskie’s an award winning local Butchers and Cafe in Wemyss Bay, Inverclyde .We serve breakfast and lunch and home baking in a friendly and welcoming environment on the beautiful Clyde coast opposite Wemyss Bay Station and ferry Terminal.
We are well known for our breakfasts using all the key ingredients made in our butchers including The World Champion Haggis , Scottish Champion Black pudding , award winning sausages and our dry cure bacon .
We produce all our own home-baking and do pop up evenings once a month featuring steaks and burgers and specialities from the butchers .
The hours are 8-4.30 or 7-4.00 PM
We are closed on Mondays and open Tuesday - Sunday. our opening gours are 9-4pm

SKILLS

  • Proven experience as a Cook or Chef in a professional kitchen environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent culinary skills with a passion for food production and presentation.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in food preparation and service.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook high-quality meals according to the menu and dietary requirements.
  • Maintain food safety and hygiene standards in compliance with health regulations.
  • Assist in menu planning and development, incorporating seasonal ingredients and culinary trends.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
  • Ensure the kitchen is organised, clean, and well-maintained at all times.
  • Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Train new kitchen staff on food preparation techniques and safety protocols.
  • Help produce products for the butchers shop including our popular chicken steaks, kievs and pakoras .
