Overview Calspan is seeking a Vehicle Measurement & Scanning Technician to support automotive crash test and vehicle development programs. This is a hands-on role working directly with prototype and pre-production vehicles in a fast-paced testing environment. This position focuses on measuring, marking up, and 3D scanning vehicles before and after crash testing to provide accurate, high-quality data to our engineering teams and customers. Prior experience with CMM or metrology systems is helpful, but not required — Calspan will train motivated candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience. Perform pre-test vehicle measurements and physical markup per test plans and customer requirements Conduct post-test measurements and 3D scans to document deformation and test results Operate portable measurement equipment such as CMM arms and 3D scanners (training provided) Accurately document measurements, scan data, and observations Work closely with test engineers, technicians, and vehicle preparation teams Reading and comprehending testing procedures and protocols Ensure accuracy, repeatability, and adherence to established procedures Identify and communicate measurement issues or inconsistencies Maintain a safe, organized work area and follow all safety and PPE requirements Support continuous improvement of measurement tools and processes Qualifications Required Qualifications: Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working hands-on with vehicles High attention to detail and ability to follow defined procedures Ability to document work clearly and communicate technical information Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new software Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Willingness to work overtime as required (ample overtime available) Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours per day, including uneven surfaces Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crawling, and twisting Ability to work around damaged vehicles, debris, and industrial test environments Ability to visually identify issues and respond to safety signals Preferred Qualifications: Experience in automotive, manufacturing, testing, or inspection environments Familiarity with CMMs, laser scanning, 3D scanning, or optical measurement systems Background in quality, dimensional inspection, or vehicle preparation Engineering Technology degree or related technical education, or equivalent hands-on experience Work Environment Automotive crash test and development facility Hands-on work with prototype and pre-production vehicles Fast-paced environment driven by customer and test schedules Over time opportunities are common and anticipated Why join Calspan?
