Wholey’s Market, 1711 Penn Avenue, in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District is celebrating 112 years in business and is seeking a candidate for an immediate opening for our Meat & Poultry Salesperson Clerk role. This 5-day-a-week position is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to build upon their experience, work ethic, and passion for customer service to be a part of the growth and success of these departments. As a member of the Meat & Poultry team, your primary focus will be servicing the customers and ensuring they have the freshest seafood or poultry delivered from around the world 7 days a week. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of seafood or food service experience. However, we will train the right person if they have the right attitude and willingness to work. Reponsibilites:
Be present behind the seafood counter and on the ready to address and serve customers.
Provide exemplary customer service by greeting customers in the department and ensuring they can locate the seafood that they are looking for.
Will learn and develop sufficient basic knowledge of meat and poultry quality, type, origins, and how to prepare, to answer questions and make suggestions to our customers.
Properly handle product and equipment in accordance with food safety guidelines to ensure your personal safety and the safety of your co-workers as well as customer safety.
Replenish product in the seafood cases, rotating product and ensuring code dating procedures are followed and only the freshest product is available for sale including maintaining proper ice levels on all display cases.
Wrapping meat products.
No butchering of products or knife skills are involved.
Maintain cleanliness of department fish cutting and work area.
Assist in maintaining seafood cooler and freezer efficiency by unloading deliveries using proper rotation practices.

Assist in other areas as required which could include other departments. Stock seafood cases: presentation of product, facing, filling displays.
Requires operating and using equipment such as extremely sharp knives, scales, box cutters, wrappers, trash compactors, garbage disposals, with training electric and manual pallet jacks.
Monitor proper safety practices and wearing proper PPE by using all the accessories available in the seafood department.
Lift up to 50 lbs., briefly push and pull carts weighing up to several hundred lbs., climb a ladder, stand for extended periods of time.
Maintain proper hygiene and be in a clean, presentable uniform.
The successful candidate must be able to pass a background check.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $13.75 - $17.40 per hour
