Position Overview Repairs and maintains company and customer vehicles and mechanical equipment (engines, hydraulic systems, etx.) within the regulations and standards set by DOT (Dept. of Transportation), NYS DOH (NY state Dept. of Health), and DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicles) by performing the following duties. Essential Job Functions Observes mechanical devices in operation to watch and listens for causes of failure Diagnoses electrical and computer control devises using appropriate testing equipment. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts. Starts devices to test their performance. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make, repair, and rebuild parts. Initiates purchase order for parts and machines. Repairs electrical equipment. Preventative maintenance on a scheduled basis for all fleet vehicles. Completion of major fabrication work as assigned, to include; body work, painting, installation of wheelchair lifts, etc. Road service calls as necessary to evaluate and repair failed vehicles and equipment. Timely communication to Supervisors and Dispatchers of vehicles off road for service and repair. (To include target time for returning to road service.) Performs New York State D.O.T. inspections of road vehicles. Road tests equipment and vehicles. Diagnoses chronic repair problems and devises permanent repair resolution plan. Operates snow removal equipment. Performs minor building maintenance and equipment repair as needed. Requirements Requirements Must have own tools Valid NYS Driver’s License Minimum of Two (2) years as an Automotive Technician ASE Certified Technician (A1-A8) Not required but preferred NYS Inspectors License is a plus Technical skills to diagnosis, electrical and mechanical repairs Effective and professional communications skills Basic computer skills To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
