Job Details Job Location: Ottertail - Ottertail, MN 56571 Salary Range: $18.00 - $35.00 Hourly Job Overview: A Tree Service Truck and Equipment Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, ranging from light to heavy-duty trucks, bucket trucks, skid loaders, toolcats, and grapple trucks. Mechanics are responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining this specialized equipment to support the tree service operations. The position requires a strong mechanical background, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety. Responsibilities: Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and equipment to ensure they are in optimal working condition. This includes checking engine performance, brakes, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other components. Diagnostic Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in trucks and equipment using various diagnostic tools and equipment. Identify the root cause of problems and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime. Preventive Maintenance: Develop and adhere to a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to reduce the likelihood of unexpected breakdowns and extend the lifespan of vehicles and equipment. Repair and Replacement: Conduct repairs on faulty parts and components or recommend replacements when necessary. Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of replacement parts. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle and equipment. Generate reports on equipment condition, maintenance schedules, and repair history. Proper documentation is crucial for tracking maintenance schedules and identifying recurring issues. Upgrading Skills: Mechanics must stay updated on the latest advancements in automotive or equipment technology. They may attend workshops, and seminars, or undergo manufacturer-specific training to enhance their skills and knowledge. Mechanics may be needed to assist in enhancing policies, procedures, and best practices by utilizing their knowledge, experience, and mechanical understanding to upgrade the skills of those operating the equipment. Safety Compliance: Ensure that all trucks and equipment meet safety standards and regulations. Conduct regular safety inspections and address any safety concerns promptly. Emergency Repairs: Be available for emergency repairs and breakdowns to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including operators and supervisors, to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize equipment repairs. Equipment Upgrades and Modifications: Recommend and implement equipment upgrades or modifications to enhance performance, efficiency, and safety. Field Repair Work: May be needed to do repairs in the field. Job Qualifications: Proven experience as a mechanic working on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and equipment. Familiarity with hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diesel engines. Proficiency in diagnostic tools and equipment. Welding and fabrication skills are advantageous. Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to equipment operation and maintenance. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical stamina and dexterity to handle equipment repairs and maintenance tasks. Valid driver's license DOT inspector certificate Commercial driver’s license is advantageous Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate professionally, both verbal and in writing, with the general public, customers, and fellow employees. Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Needs to be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day. Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work tasks such as rain, heat, sun, cold, snow. Including working in varying temperatures: 90F to -25F. Must be able to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information in English. Must be able to communicate with others and represent Carr’s Tree Service in a professional manner. Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment. Ability to work in conditions/areas which may include dust, pollen, smoke, noxious weeds, poison ivy, bees, and other insects. Drive and operate vehicles and equipment within DOT, OSHA, and manufacturer regulations.
