Description
Position: Mechanical Millwright Apprentice Location: Birmingham, AL Job Type: Onsite w/ Travel Reports to: Engineering Manager Department: North American Operations Position Purpose: As a Mechanical Millwright Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of experienced millwrights to learn the skills necessary to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial machinery and mechanical systems. This hands-on role is ideal for individuals looking to build a career in industrial maintenance and mechanical trade.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   · Demonstrates the values and business principles of Leadec. · Works safely at all times. · Read and interpret mechanical drawings for equipment fabrication and assembly · Perform precise layouts for new or relocated equipment installations · Safely and effectively use all hand tools relevant to the trade · Assist with rigging operations: bull rigging experience is a plus · Operate industrial equipment including carry deck cranes, rigger forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts and high-reach lulls · Utilize heavy-duty machine roller, toe-jacks, and air bearings (preferred) · Conduct precise measurements using calipers and micrometers · Support pip fitting tasks across various pipe types (screw, weld, copper, glue joints) · Assist with welding tasks (MIG, TIG, Sticks); welding experience is a plus · Participate in bearing removal and installation · Align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances · Use oxyacetylene torch for flame cutting and steel heating · Operate Theodolite surveying equipment (preferred) · Travel for out-of-town assignments as needed · Collaborate effectively with team members and demonstrate a strong work ethic · Adhering to and supporting all EHS and Quality objectives, in accordance with ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 respectively. · All other duties as assigned by Leadec manager.   Competencies:   · Managing Tasks · Open Communication · Self-Management   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   · Communication Skills - Ability to communicate with all levels of Leadec and customer employees. · Language Ability -- Talking to others to convey information effectively. · Ability to work within precise limits and standards of accuracy · Make decisions based on measurable criteria · Apply basic mathematics to solve problems · Plan tasks and select appropriate tools · Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings · Work confidently at heights · Compare and differentiate sizes, shapes, and forms of mechanical components   Position Qualifications:   · High school diploma or equivalent is preferred · Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial maintenance · Ability to follow instructions and work safely · Strong communication and teamwork skills · Work under immediate supervision   Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the key actions of the job:   · Required to talk and/or hear in an industrial setting (noise level is high). Frequently required to stand and walk on concrete surfaces for 4 -12 hours. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; lift; climb or balance: kneel, crawl, stoop, or crouch. · Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and focus adjustment. · Work is performed in an industrial-manufacturing environment with occasional time spent working on a computer or at a desk.
