OVERVIEW

The Mechanical Business Development Manager plays a critical role in driving business growth within the mechanical engineering and industrial sectors. This position combines deep technical knowledge with strategic sales and relationship-building skills to identify new opportunities, expand market presence, and secure profitable contracts.
Working closely with both internal technical teams and external clients, the role focuses on understanding customer needs, promoting tailored mechanical solutions, and developing long-term partnerships. The Business Development Manager is also responsible for market analysis, proposal development, and negotiating deals that align with the company’s strategic goals.
This role is ideal for a technically proficient individual with strong commercial awareness, a proactive mindset, and the ability to bridge engineering and business development.
This role reports directly to Commercial Director.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven track record in business development, sales, or account management within hard services, MEP, or facilities management projects.
  • Strong understanding of Hard services projects in a commercial, industrial, or public sector environment.
  • Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills, both externally and internally.
  • Experience in managing the full sales cycle, from lead generation to contract closing.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify profitable opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Proficiency in CRM software (Simpro), Microsoft Office Suite, and sales reporting tools.
  • A degree or relevant qualification in engineering, facilities management, business, or a related field is desirable.
  • Full UK driving license (if applicable).
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan to drive revenue growth within the hard services projects sector.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through market research, networking, and direct outreach.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead the tendering and bidding process, preparing high-quality proposals and presentations in conjunction with the Bid Manager.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including operations, engineering, and finance, to ensure project feasibility and profitability.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to identify new opportunities and risks.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements, ensuring favourable terms and compliance with company policies.
  • Meet and exceed sales targets, ensuring consistent pipeline growth and conversion.
  • Deliver regular sales reports, forecasts, and insights to the Commercial Director.
