MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER – COLORADO SPRINGS, CO

CRAVE Technical is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. Job responsibilities for this position will focus on core System Integration tasks but have opportunity for career growth across a few different skillsets.

System Integration:

  • Provide support from initial concepting, through to detailed design and build/bringup/implementation of engineered system.
  • Work in a cross-functional team including Electrical and Controls Engineers to meet customer user requirements.
  • Translate user requirements into engineering requirements
  • Select components and integration methods
  • Perform detailed design work to develop a system.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/aerospace/mechatronics engineering.
· Strong technical writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
· Project management skills
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Proficiency within 3D CAD modeling systems and workflow, including generation of 2D drawings. Inventor and Solidworks are preferred platforms.
· Knowledge of drafting best practices within small scale manufacturing environment for machined and sheetmetal parts. Must be familiar with ASME Y14.5 principles.
· Mechanical concept, design and test development experience.
· Understanding of kinematics and mechanism design.

· Understanding of pneumatic and electromechanical actuator sizing using datasheets, engineering calculations, and manufacturer sizing tools. Manufacturers include:

  • Selection of specific components based on datasheets, design calculations and/or testing
  • Develop tests and test methodologies
  • Develop scheduling around detailed design of system
  • Integration of components through custom designed hardware
  • Development of tolerance analysis around critical systems
  • Development of optimizations to reduce tolerance loops
  • Locating features
  • Calibration blocks
  • Calibration processes
  • Application of DFM and DFA principles to custom hardware
  • Generation of part and assembly drawings
  • Generation of assembly work instruction
  • Support of purchasing operations in interfacing directly with fabrication shops
  • Support build operations through answering design/assembly questions and correcting redlines
  • Support system bringup operations through multiple methods
  • First implementation of calibration processes
  • Collaboration with controls engineers to verify electromechanical system performance
  • Further development and optimization of systems through revisions and variants
  • Manage part/assembly revisions and variants using a PDM tool with a standard process
  • Contribute critical technical detail to machine documentation (design reviews, manuals, etc.)
  • Continuous development of a repository of parts, assembly techniques and calibration techniques to ease future project burden
