Description

This position is responsible for the R. & D., Quick Draw design, Jig and Fixture design, cost analysis, set up procedures; testing of new equipment, including the development of process improvements; works closely with the Production Manager and other Departments resolving daily and long term engineering issues. This position is furthermore responsible for the constant innovation of the product(s), developing, documenting, monitoring, implementing and organizing all engineering developments in the product(s).

  • Improvement of the Quick Draw Tarpaulin System through Research and Development studies
  • Prepare Research and Development reports for management as well as yearly government incentive programs
  • Product research, documentation and analysis of new designs for parts and products.
  • Long term engineering and technical planning
  • Assist in developing and maintaining installation manuals, user manuals, maintenance schedules, manufacturing procedures, etc.
  • Continual development of the current product line as well as the design and development of future product lines.
  • Works closely with production/quality control personnel to develop and implement production processes when changes in the current product are implemented
  • Troubleshooting design problems, manufacturing problems and implementing solutions.
  • Customer relations and assistance to Sales Department from a technical perspective.
  • Works closely with the Supervisors, shop workers and Managers on documentation, implementation and maintenance of quality control methods and procedures.
  • Design of manufacturing jigs and fixtures.
  • Performing cost analysis on parts and systems for use in determining final pricing, assist with ‘special’ pricing, and alerting management of cost fluctuations due to the effect of new designs etc.
  • Works closely with other designers and project managers to effectively organize/standardize drawing styles and filing systems.
  • This position is also responsible for all company drawings related to the Quick Draw product, quality control procedures and technical development.
  • Completes analysis and prepares reports on new manufacturing equipment to satisfy O.H.S.A. requirements.
  • Performs calculations and completes documents as required for government regulations related to the installation of truck bodies and equipment.
  • Assists the Custom Fabricating Dept. with designs and calculations on various projects such as concrete molds and lifting devices.
  • Assists maintenance personnel with trouble shooting, repair, and maintenance procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree (P.Eng. an asset)
  • Proficient in Solid Works, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office programs
  • Technical writing skills
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing
  • Lead Assessor for Quality and Environmental Systems
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Excellent supervisor ability
  • Exceptional interpersonal written and oral communication abilities
  • The ability to work with others in a team atmosphere

    Pay: $28.00 per hour
