Description

Small company that has been in business for 75 years is seeking a hard working individual to join their engineering team. You will work on new designs 25% of the time, and improving existing products about 75% of the time. All manufacturing is done here in NE Ohio, so there will be a great deal of exposure to different manufacturing processes, so you will see the products you design be built on site. They are most interested in individuals who are open to working in a collaborative environment and who are comfortable communicating with sales, upper management, manufacturing engineering, as well as customers.

POSITION DESCRIPTION – MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Position Summary (Overall purpose):

  • This position is responsible for leading product design projects from inception to completion as provided by the Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead product introduction process for selected new products.
  • Understand customer needs and facilitate product definitions.
  • Develop project plans and timelines for project completion.
  • Ensure project cost targets are clearly understood and met.
  • Ensure designs are robust from a performance point of view and cost effective from a manufacturing point of view.
  • Create design models and documentation using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Create product bill of materials and production routings.
  • Engage the rest of the organization in the product development process.
  • Continuously improve and/or update selected product lines as needed or as beneficial to Heat Seal.
  • Work closely alongside Manufacturing/Production to ensure a smooth handoff of design changes and new products from development to standard production
  • Propose and implement new tools and techniques for speeding up the new product Introduction process.

  • Regularly update management and other appropriate teams of project status – design reviews.
  • Own design responsibility for selected products. Design machinery and equipment using industry best practices. Understand competitors’ products and how the technical/functional aspects are different/same. Strive to differentiate product designs.
  • Participate in customer acceptance/buy-off process for products when appropriate.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support to manufacturing, customer service, and sales.
  • Help promote a higher level of discipline regarding design documentation completeness and an attitude of finishing projects and moving on to the next.
  • Help build an engineering culture of teamwork and excellence.

Qualifications (Specific knowledge, training or skills required to perform the duties of this position. Specific concepts, courses, training programs or required certifications):

  • Demonstrated understanding of equipment design principles, practices, and technology typically acquired by completing a Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Thorough knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Social skills required include behavioral maturity, demonstrated trust and integrity, high ethical standards, interpersonal competence and the ability to prevent, reduce and constructively resolve conflict.
  • Strong written, oral communication and training skills.
  • PC Computer Proficiency other than CAD: Inventor, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and generate results in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated team and individual leadership skills: decision making, analytical, team building and organization.
  • Ability to communicate well with all levels of employees as well as with customers.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,014.14 - $105,000.00 per year
