JOB TITLE: MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER – MEDICAL DEVICES (SOLIDWORKS/NPD)

Location: Onsite in Shelton, CT
Start Date: ASAP (as early as 7/7/2025)
Duration: 6 months (contract) plus
Pay Rate: Up to $55/hr (W2, 40 hours/week, no OT)

OVERVIEW:

We are urgently seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in New Product Development (NPD) for handheld medical devices. This role focuses on designing small assemblies and mechanisms involving injection molded plastics, machined parts, and minor sheet metal components. Candidates must be able to take designs from concept through prototype and production, work directly with customers, and provide engineering-level support beyond CAD work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (Biomed also considered)
  • Proven NPD experience, especially with handheld medical devices
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks
  • Experience designing mechanisms, small moving parts, and multi-material components
  • Ability to interact with customers, machine shops, and cross-functional teams
  • Hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting experience
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop handheld medical devices using SolidWorks 2024 (or recent version)
  • Work with injection molded plastics, machined metal, hypo tubing, and simple sheet metal components
  • Collaborate with customers throughout the NPD process and manage design updates
  • Support prototyping: drawing, building, assembling, and testing components
  • Perform engineering analysis, testing, and reporting
  • Work on GD&T and solve design issues creatively
  • Communicate regularly with business development managers and design stakeholders
