Description

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Plymouth, Devon
Salary: Up to £50,000 (Depending on Experience)
Working Arrangement: On-Site (Half Day Working On Friday’s)
This position involves designing and developing products from initial concept through to final production. You will deliver innovative, practical, and effective solutions to mechanical design challenges, progressing through prototyping, testing, and ultimately bringing your designs to manufacturing.
A keen eye for detail, curiosity, initiative, and self-motivation are essential qualities. The ability to critically assess and refine your own designs will be highly valuable in achieving optimal results.
Collaborating effectively with other engineering disciplines, departments, and suppliers is a key aspect of this role, so strong communication skills—both written and verbal—are required.
Your responsibilities will also include researching new materials, technologies, and processes to address complex design issues.

EDUCATION:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant equivalent is required.

Responsibilities
  • Developing conceptual designs based on customer requirements
  • Designing products with components manufactured via techniques such as:
  • Plastic injection moulding
  • CNC machining (plastics and metals)
  • Sheet metal fabrication
  • Vacuum forming
  • Extrusions (aluminium and plastics)
  • Building and evaluating prototypes
  • Working with suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturing, preparing cost estimates, and creating Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Drafting detailed drawings and related documentation
  • Writing engineering change notices to facilitate product release to production
