EXPERIENCE

15 plus years of mechanical mining experience in the following areas:

  • Ore flow includes hoisting, conveyors, chutes and bins
  • Dewatering, process water, compressed air systems
  • Ventilation systems
  • Backfill and concrete/shotcrete systems
  • Maintenance garages, warehousing, office/dry buildings, refuge stations
Responsibilities
  • Leading a team of Mechanical Designers and Engineers to drive commonality and consistency across the project’s mechanical deliverables.
  • Working with the Civil/Structural, Electrical/Instrumentation and Mining Design Leads to ensure deliverables that cross disciplines are consistent.
  • Interfacing with the client’s technical representative to resolve design challenges and to deliver mechanical team reports.
  • Setting up the initial list of mechanical deliverables, defining the mechanical aspects of the schedule and defining the mechanical project design criteria.
  • Interfacing with the other design disciplines and leading the multi-discipline checks of the mechanical team’s deliverables.
  • Resolving design conflicts within the mechanical team and bringing in support when required.
  • Participating in the definition of the project document templates and project CAD standards and then spot checking throughout the project period.
  • Supporting the Area Manager’s role of managing schedule and budget through notification of over-runs and client requested changes to scope.
  • Audit the mechanical content of the material take-offs, equipment list, tie-point list, valve list, line list, and facility matrix to ensure consistency.
  • Auditing the mechanical content of drawings, models, calculations and documents to ensure consistency of assumptions and methods.
  • Directing requests for mechanical information to the correct responder during the procurement cycle, estimate cycle and construction cycle.
  • Develop costing in response to requests for quote, including developing lists of deliverables, estimating expenses and contributing to proposal written documents.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical mining systems, methods, materials, and industry standards for a mining environment.
  • Understands all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and leading the mechanical team to resolve the problem.
  • Ability to check others’ work for accuracy and completeness, as well as across packages of mechanical deliverables.
  • Manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using Navisworks or similar is considered a benefit.
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the mechanical team.
  • Effectively discuss project issues with project leadership, clients and reviewing agencies.
