Mechanical Designer (AutoCAD / SolidWorks) — Custom Steel Doors
Location: On-site at 1710 Powell St, Springdale, AR
Schedule: M–F, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM (overtime available)
Employment: Full-time W-2
Compensation: $50,000–$70,000 starting

About Us: We’re a fully custom design/build manufacturer of high-end steel doors and windows serving commercial and residential clients. Most of our customers are in New York City, and we’re expanding rapidly into new markets. We value craftsmanship, technical excellence, and a commitment to quality and continuous learning.

What You’ll Do:

  • Produce fabrication/shop drawings (DWG/PDF) and glass maps for custom steel doors & windows.
  • Create cut lists and do the math/geometry required for accurate fabrication.
  • Coordinate directly with clients/architects/contractors to ensure designs are functional and buildable.
  • Work cross-functionally with Design, Fabrication, Installation, and Purchasing to keep projects moving.
  • Drive/track ordering and readiness of glass, hardware, and components for on-time builds.
  • Visit the shop floor to answer RFI-type questions and support fabricators with build details (no field measuring; handled by Sales).
  • Maintain clean revision control, organized files, and timely handoffs to cutting/fab.

Tools & Workflow:

  • CAD: AutoCAD + SolidWorks (primary).
  • File sharing: Dropbox & Google Drive.
  • Communication & workflow: Trello and Microsoft Teams.
  • Standards & tolerances: Dimension to 1/16”; use appropriate weld symbols/notes; follow internal title blocks/layering once onboarded.
  • Approvals: Cory approves internal fabrication drawings; Barry approves customer-facing revisions before release.
  • Cadence: Monday leadership meeting with Barry, Cory, and team leads; meeting notes required.

What You Bring Must-haves:

  • 2+ years in a CAD/drafting or mechanical/architectural metal design role.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude; understanding of MIG/TIG welding processes and how parts are made/installed.
  • Comfortable working in a live shop environment (dust/noise/PPE), with clear, professional communication.
  • Organized, detail-driven, and able to self-direct work with minimal oversight.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with door/window hardware (hinges, multipoint locks, thresholds, weatherstrip) or the ability to learn quickly.
  • Knowledge of glass types/specs (tempered, laminated, IGU).
  • Familiarity with weld symbols, basic GD&T, nesting/optimization, and shop-friendly detailing.
  • Experience using Trello and Teams for project coordination.
